Regrerating Proxies

I have a non-cached sequence on the timeline, which has cached proxies. The footage has been replced on the disk but Smoke doesn't seem to be aware of this so continues to display the old proxies. Is there a way of selectivley regenerating the proxies, or do I have to re-import the footage?

Hi,

You should be able to switch to the tools area and choose the Utilities Tab.

You should find an option to perform PROXY REGENERATION.

Hope this helps

Haha, that might do it. Thanks Grant.

One thing though. If I regen the proxies in the library they don't update on the timeline. Do I need to regen the entire timeline ?

Once again many thamks

That will regenerate the proxies for whichever clip you select.

If you want regenerate the proxies for the whole project, go to the project settings and turn proxies off and Apply.

Than turn proxies on again and apply.   Smoke will regen the proxies for the whole project and every clip with the updated frames.

Hope this helps.

I'm having another kind of problem, but it's also about proxies:

I have a quite big project that was created in Smoke 2013, and I updated it to Smoke 2015 for a couple of changes, but for some reason the proxies that were created in 2013 see to be corrupted and they're not playing back correctly.

I thought about deleting the proxies for the whole project and recreate them as Grant suggested, but the Proxies ON/OFF is now greyed out in 2015, so I can't delete them.

Attached is a screen shot of my project settings Proxies tab with the Proxies On greyed out and no possibility to turn it off.

Any help?

I have a suspicion its because the project was upgraded from 2013 to 2015.

Does it work OK if you create a new 2015 project?

A quick idea off the top of my head is to create a new 2015 project without proxies on. Go into the MediaHub and copy all the clips from the 2013 project into the 2015 version.

This should not copy the proxies over. Next turn proxies on for the 2015 project. This should kick off the proxies generation.

Once all your settings are copied over, you can delete the 2013 converted project.

Its a suggestion but it might work.

I will try that and let you know.

Thanks for the reply!

OK so I've done a couple of tests, and here are my results:

1- If I try to create a new project in 2015 with Proxies OFF, I still cannot turn it back ON after the project was created... the Proxies option is greyed out and cannot be changed.

2- When I create a new project in 2015 with Proxies ON, and I import DPX 10-bit files with the Proxies set to Depth Full Res, the Proxies don't play back normally (attached is a Screen Grab of how the Proxies appear)

3- When I create a new project in 2015 with Proxies ON, and I import DPX 10-bit files with the Proxies set to Depth 8-bit, the Proxies play back normally with no problem.

4- When I create a new project in 2015 with Proxies ON, and I import Apple ProRes 4444 Quicktime files with the Proxies set to Depth Full Res, the Proxies play back normally with no problem.

So bottom line, there seems to be some problem with Proxies set to Depth Full Res when importing DPX 10-bit files... which is how my original project in 2013 was created.

So my problem now is that I cannot play back my timeline using the Proxies originally created and I cannot delete those Proxies to create new ones...
