I have two animated flags that I would like to roll down from the top of the screen (see attached pic). I've tried the matchbox shader for 3d page turns but that doesn't include the alpha for the flags. I've also tried bending the flags with a bicubic surface but I can't seem the get the back side of the roll to look right. Any suggestions for a workflow?
Thanks!
Rich
BiCubic is your best way, but painful. the 1980's page turn has never been easy on Smoke.
Grant, Looking at the Page Turn Matchbox, I couldn't see how to turn off the back. Without this, your seperate matte and fill combo passes and recomp can't be done. The 3D Page Turn always has this awakward "back" page that gets in the way.
Yeah, Brian you posted it before I could. I was looking at that method yesterday but couldn't see how to turn off that back side or at least make the back match the front.
At least you know I was giving your issue a proper looking into to. Ducks in a row and all that. 🙂
Sure. That's the great thing about this forum. I know a page turn isn't used very much, but given Smoke's 3d capabilites it should be easier to do. I don't have too much time to mess around with the bicubics so I might do the roll down effect in AE then bring that element into Smoke and add the displacement.
Thanks!
I've had success taking an oversized frame into action and bending it in half using extended bicubics. Then move the front source and matte source throught that bicubic bent shape and invert that move in the layer axis so you get a static image that page turns! It's still quite tricky though...
