Issue extracting normal maps

When I extract a normal map (I made the model in Max, it's a belt for a character) Mudbox is extracting like 400+ normal maps... Like, mapU1-V1, mapU1-V2 and so on and so on. My uvs are in the uv1 space... any idea whats going on??
