Just wondering if there's an option to Export Same as Source. I'm working on a 30 minute project with ProRes 4444 source material. I'd love to just export it as is but if I choose ProRes4444 from the Smoke export options will I be adding an extra layer of compression - plus adding time to my export? Or, by picking the same output compression that my footage is already encoded in, is Smoke smart enough to "leave it alone"?
Thanks.
I am going to say no...Smoke isn't smart enough for that.
I am not sure that anything is when dealing with multiple files in a timeline.
Regardless, if you have any clips on the timeline with effects, then you have seperate 1 frame renders for each of those effects on your Media Storage. So thosue would have to be compiled in the final as wellas "clean" sources.
Rendering and exporting is just part of what we still deal with.
Thanks BKM,
Yeah, I get that. I guess I'm just wondering what sort of trouble I'm potentially getting into by compressing the already compressed source material. I'm used to working on a Linux Smoke, working uncompressed, and outputting to tape.
Welcome to the brave new world of digital deliverables huh?
Thanks again.
prores4444 to prores4444 I imagine wouold still be very clean for digital distibution. And of course you can always change to Uncompressed and re-render then export from there.
One last question.
This project will be graded by a Colorist at another facility using the final ProRes4444 conform as the source. The colorist is asking for the footage as raw Alexa files in LOG space.
Do I have to apply a LUT to my finished sequence before exporting to accomplish this?
Are the files shoot in Raw Alexa files in LOG? Are you doing and effects/comping prior to color? You can work in LOG if the clips are log in Smoke with no issues then publish an EDL for the colorist.
