COMPOSITING for animation films

I would like ot see how animaters composite and do color correction and dust-particles and so on. I plan to use After Effects for compositing but everytime I look for a compositing tutorial, I see tutorials of dinasuars and other stuff into video footage

. I know that is compositing but, I would like to see how compositing is done for animation films so i can see what the effects are called. Or, do I just look up color grading and dust particles and maybe render passes? or is compositing render passes such as beauty pass, then ambient occluison pass then color correction and dust particles?
