Hello,
Would it be possible to review the current tree and move the save "Batch Snapshots" outside the "Desktop" area?
What about you?
Personally, we do not work in shot by shot and we have a problem with that tree. Batch Snapshots are often deleted and "undo" is not possible.
thank you

+1 for that. Saving a batch snapshot saves to the desktop, which in turn needs saving to the library to be safe.
The majority of the time I have a 'temp' desktop with lots of bits on it and i dont want to keep saving that, restoring the snapshot's desktop, load the snapshot, modify, snapshot again to desktop, save desktop and then reload my working 'temp' desktop. Seems very long winded compared to 2014.
Hi Guys,
It is possible to save your current batch directly to the library but it is not a snapshot.
Hover over the grey area in Batch and press META(WINDOWS)+S. This will save the current batch to the set destination library.
If you save the Batch again to the same location with the same name, you will be asked to replace, bump or cancel. If you bump, it will version the saved Batch in the library and it will update the batch name to the new version number.
So effectively it is like snapshotting to the library.
The original intent of the current workflow was to do and keep everything in the desktop (including snapshots) and save all the work to the library once you had finished.
However, using the shortcut key I mentioned (and it's context sensitive by the way) you can save the individual elements to the library. This means it's up to you to ensure all your work is backed up to the libraries before clearing the desktop.
The options are there to suit the style you wish to work.
Hope this helps.

Grant
Hello Grant,
If I'm not mistaken, this is the shortcut 198 "snaphot Desktop/Reel/Clip/Batch Under Cursor". When I do the test of your proposal, the "bump" feature is not available.
There are only "Add", "Replace" and "Rename". Moreover all the Desktop is saved, not just the "Batch snapshot."
What I find unfortunate is that with the new release, "Batch Snapshots" are associated with the "Desktop".
In previous versions, the benefits were that we had access at any time to "Batch Snapshot" simply, that the risk of deleting were very low, and that the manipulations were reduced in bookstores.
I find this way of working less friendly.
I think it would be more convenient to have a "Batch Snapshot" additional tab in the manner of "Libraries" and "Desktop".

I think Grant's correct (as always..), you need to hover over the grey in the batch schematic window then [cmd/wins]+s then it'll save the batch setup in your selected library (you can change the library with the drodown menu at the bottom of the ui). Doing this again will bring up the Cancel/Bump/Replace options.
Hi,
The functions do exist as I test these before I post here.
As I said, the saving elements is context sensitive. So depending where you place your cursor will determine what element of the desktop is saved.
All I am doing is hovering my cursor over the desktop and press META+S. I get a message to replace the BATCH SETUP with Replace, Bump or Cancel. Please try again and let me know.
The problem with the old mechanism and why it was changed was that the Batch Snapshots had their own section in the Media Panel… They were totally dissociated from their Reels and the desktop. The majority of users complained that they wanted to sort the snapshots in the library and arrange the way they wanted. So this is what was done.
But you can still work the way you wanted (ala 2014) by saving the batch-setup into the library like I said. You just need to get the cursor in the right place before saving. Check out my video -- http://youtu.be/SqIeM62KeFc?list=PLqfk4mdQn0sXgleSZX0UZRyZLEikrakGP
At 2 minutes into the video you see how to save the Batch setup into the library.
Hope this helps.

What is the name of the shortcut, and what shortcuts do you use (Flame / Smoke or FCP)?
I work with shortcuts Smoke and I think it is not predefined.
It's ok for me.
This shortcut was not predefined shortcuts Smoke.
This solution is fine. Thank you both!
Special thanks to Grant who once again had the right solution!
Hey Grant,
Thanks for the save tip.
You mentioned sorting batch snapshots. The sort in the name column seems to effect reels and sources only.
Is there a way to alphabetically sort the snapshots?
- Dave
Hi,
Apparently this is the case.
You can sort folders, reels and clips. The sorting functions do not affect snapshots save in the library.
What is possible is to make a folder and the order you drop each snapshot will resemble their final order in the folder. Not ideal but it works.
I think this might be a bug... I'll get it logged.

Hey Grant,
Another question.
I keep running into a context viewing issue in batch, where the result view and the context view are 2 different sizes and or positions even though they are the same size clip.
Am I doing something wrong that is causing this, or is there a preference or key command to keep them locked?
- Dave
In my case I am not using the split bar but rather A/B frame matching the clips
Is there a way to lock the plates in this mode?
Yes, toggling between 1 and F4, or 2 and F4, or 1 and 2.
It seems to be a random occurance.
However once it starts in a batch set-up, it seems to be a consistant issue.
now Im confused...
Are you talking about a 2-up view? If not Im not sure what the split bar is between 2 viewers if not the comparing split bar.
I guess what Im looking for is when viewing result view at any zoom percent or position, then switching to context view, the frames don't always line up.
I understand that each context may have its own zoom and position.
But it seems that when contexting for comparison, it would be nice if the 2 views would automatically lock together with same size and position. I cant think of an instance, when contexting that you would not want the 2 clips to line up?
Again sometimes they do line up, sometimes they dont.
