Any experience with Lacie 5big or 8big Thunderbolt on Smoke

on Macpro or Imac or RMBP??

Was wondering how good it performs under stress while running heavy loads on smoke.

Also anyone running smoke on 5Kimac on the i5 model?? How big a difference does it make when compared to the maxed out version?

thanks

majush

Hey Majush!

I've been using Smoke on a 27" iMac i7 Late 2012 with a Lacie 5big 20TB Thunderbolt.

I started working on this machine around March 2013, and no problem whatsoever so far... I've had some pretty big projects (2 hours long feature film with some complex CFX), but always worked in 2K at most.

Most of the files I work with are either Apple ProRes or DPX files.

I once tried working in 4K on a commercial, and that was very sluggish.

So if you're working in 2K or less, I can recommend the 5big Thunderbolt.

Note that my 5big is the first model that came out, so it's Thunderbolt 1.

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot Sebastin. Appreciate your input. I am still hoping to buy the 8big since I can get 1050MB/Sec and I usually work on 10Bit DPX. If I cant find 8Big in time, I will go for 5big 20TB instead. That one i know for sure have stock and gives out reasonably good speed for HD.

Cheers
