Announcing Mudbox 2015

Announcing Mudbox 2015

It is that time of year again!   Time to roll out the new features and benefits of our new releases.

This year the Mudbox 2015 release has focused extensively on Enhanced Workflows for: sculpting, painting, and production needs (morph targets/blend shapes for animation; camera matching for shot painting/sculpting; "live" paint updates with other packages and Mudbox)

New features include:

  • New symmetry options for retopology and for existing meshes - this includes preserving asymmetry while producing topologically symmetrical meshes!
  • Sculpt Layer and Paint Layer groups - organize your sculpt/paint layers and toggle layers without being dependent on subdivision level
  • Enhanced interoperability with Maya for Ptex and multi-tile textures - enabling artists to use a "live" updating workflow with Maya for ptex and unlimited UV tiles
  • Enhanced Maya image plane matching - many image plane parameters are retained to allow for an absolute lock for reference images for sculpting/painting or for a per-shot correction.
  • Enhanced Maya Blend Shape interoperability - a very smooth and effective way to create blend shapes.  The Sculpt Layer Group is respected as a Blend Shape node in Autodesk Maya!
  • Enhanced texture export and updating - manage your project by specifying specific production paths for individual channels or layers, regardless of shader-type from other applications
  • New Caliper tool - ensure proportions, measure distance between points and match scale to other objects

I suppose we will have to wait to see for the final to see the small fixes.  I like the grouping, I noticed that Mudbox andMayacommunicate more then in the past. Otherwise not to much difference over the Extension Release.

Yet another disappointingly thin Mudbox update.

I don't see nothing great with Mari either, not that you brought up that Package just a comment.

Can't say im not dissapointed with this release. A lot of stuff is ported over from 2014 extension. Was looking forward to some sculpting tools

Oh such a shame, another dissapointing release, not sure it warrants an upgrade.

I'm really disappointed, its just Mudbox 2014 Extension for people who hadn't access to it in 2014 version plus the layer grouping, I was expecting a base mesh creating tool, unhanced viewport rendering, higher resolution for texture painting..., yo guys you already own Meshmixer add some of it's features to Mudbox

Life is tough, CG is tougher

If you got the Extension, you can wait for Mudbox 2016.

Improvements in the workflow with ptex and udims great, grouping good, why mesh groups missed off that idk!!! But universally I would say most users would want some more innovative brush tools, you don't have to look far to see some good ones.

Subscription doesn't have 2015 available for me to download, unless there mailing mine, which wasn't the case last year it was an option. I'll wait if I have too 🙂

Not everyone gets it unlocked at the same time on the subscription centre. Some get access before others to keep traffic on the servers under control. It's unlocked for me, although I haven't downloaded it yet.

I still don't have a download link in subscription, I hope it's not a repeat of last year which took two weeks

Well the trial is available. You could just download that and authorise it when your license arrives. The trials are exactly the same exes.

I don't really know how long it usually takes for everyone to get their licenses, but it shouldn't be more than 30 days.

Thanks Robin - Downloading trial now, yeah I got maya licence first day but I had a problem last year with mudbox update showing in sub centre which required helpdesk fix

Ah if you had a problem with the license last year and your other apps are showing up already you might have to contact support. Something might have gone wrong again.
