Locking surface geometry in Sculpt Mode

Locking surface geometry in Sculpt Mode

I would love to be able to lock edges and vertices in sculpt mode so that they don't move while adjusting vertices and edges around them. This would however introduce limitations on the movement of unlocked geometry in order to maintain tangent edges.

Tangent behaviour could be controlled by something like the 'soft modification' feature that allows the edited geometry to blend with the locked geometry in a controllable way.

This has been mentioned by others as well so we should look closer at a solution. I think one area of focus for this could be locking vertices on symmetry plane as well. Perhaps an option in the symmetry commands. We may to need to explore this idea a bit to see if there are any "gotchs" issues around whether the control frame or surface vertices are being locked. They are not the same as you may sometimes see when flattening a set of vertices. Thanks for the suggestion.

Freeze funtionality for faces/edges/verts will likely be in the Jan 2016 release.
