Identify Open Loops in Sketch Environment - Fusion 360

Identify Open Loops in Sketch Environment - Fusion 360

It would be great to quickly identify when I have an open loop in a sketch.

This feature would be a quick visual aid that would highlight where in the loop the break occurs.  This might be something similar to Inventor's Sketch Doctor.

Currently, it's difficult (time consuming) to identify where the sketch is open.  I've run into this multiple times while sketching a line tangent to a circle.

All I could find on the subject was this thread (https://screencast.autodesk.com/main/details/982be187-2897-46aa-975e-0179972455ba)

Thanks,

Mike

yup agreed

specifically also knowing the sketch has some draw bugs like sometimes drawing a line not where I wanted it to adding line fragment artifacts!

Seriously this.

I have run into this issue when importing DXFs and I can use the profile previewing tools to find out I have an open contour but a lot of times the gap is very small and I can't visually see where it is.  A tool that showed gaps with a specific tolerancing (i.e. gaps under .001") would be awesome.

I've written an add-in that might be useful in the meantime.

You can find the source code here: https://github.com/AutodeskFusion360/SketchChecker_Python

And is also available on the Fusion app store:  https://apps.exchange.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=appstore.exchange.autodesk.com%3asketch...

I hope you'll find it useful until an internal solution is implemented.

Why not just have the lines overlap and let the software find the closed profile.

Where? I can't find this function in the software.

Please help. I have been searching for an open loop in my sketch for the last 45 minutes without success..

Hey great!  Now how about instead of just saying "implemented" you tell us where it is?

@schneik-adsk how do we access this functionality?

Hi folks, just ran into this myself.  Here's the add-in for checking your sketches:  https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=8050506996211430178&appLang=en&os=Win64&autostar...

Is this listed as implemented because there is a plugin or is it actually integral to the app someplace ?!?

@lubbed Implemented is odd to call this when you need to install an add-on for this !!!

Agreed @cekuhnen & @roambotics_scott.  I was only pointing this helpful app out until I can find it in the software myself 😉

On a side note, although I'm an Autodesk employee, I'm not a part of the Fusion development team.  Cheers.

@lubbed I fully understand - just saying that the implemented tab is not really fitting this!

Definitely appreciate that @lubbed and agree with @cekuhnen - @schneik-adsk this really shouldn't be flagged «implemented». There is a work around but this is pretty critical and should exist in the program

There is a new add-in called Fill Gaps in Sketch on the Autodesk App Store. It fills gaps between end points of lines and curves in a sketch. It allows to create closed profiles without gaps.

Here is a link to the Autodesk App Store:
