If you are using parametric design and use the timeline and sketches to create and sketch you geometry I suggest tyhat
at the moment you should not actually do this. Particularly if you intend to re-use your geometry in another design.
If you first create a finished body and then create a component from it and then export it (save as) in order to re-use it or later on turn it into an external reference, you'll looose the sketches and timeline of that component.
If you know ahead that you will turn something into a component, the first thing you should do is create a (empty) component and activate it. then all skethes and the timeline pertaining to that component will be part of that component and will also be saved when the component is exported, thus the complete parametric nature of the component is maintained.
