Perpetual Disconnected Space Issue

You're going to love this one... This issue is rotating, random, and non-repeatable...

1. Open the polylined space drawing
2. Access a spaces record
3. Save and Close
4. Open the X-Reffed background file
5. Check a layer name, pan and zoom
6. Close without saving
7. Open the polylined space drawing
8. Message box "10 Disconnected Spaces..."

This client has had a problem with disconnected spaces since inception. It can happen at anytime and any drawing. We have repolylined, flattened, checked polyline width, purged, audited, scrubbed, and verified all data...we have even rebuilt the database twice. This issue will not go away! Any suggestions will be enthusiastically accepted!
