Duplicate spaces created

Has anyone else run into this? If I create a single space in an AutoCAD MEP
2008 drawing, publish a DWF and import it into 7.1, a new space is created
like "101" as well as a "Duplicate of 101". If I go back to AutoCAD and do
a select all, there is still only one space.

I figured out a way around this--I don't know if it indicates a bug in
FMDesktop or not. I was using the Space tool from the HVAC palette in
AutoCAD MEP 2008 to create the spaces. For each space created, that tool
also makes a multi-view block reference. When those blocks are in the DWF
file, FMDesktop creates an area from the space and a duplicate area from the
block reference. To get around it, you can either turn off the display of
the layer containing the block references, or, before creating the spaces,
change Tag in the property menu from Aecb_Space_Name_Tag to *NONE*.

hmm, that's interesting...

I'm having trouble editing selected spaces, and got a suggestion on
another forum that maybe it was because the spaces had been labeled
'duplicate' and I was trying to figure out how the heck that happened.

:-/

I'm going to bookmark your advice just in case.

Thanks for posting.

The "Duplicate" spaces I'm talking about are in FMDesktop. I can get rid of
them by going into Facilities/Spaces and arrowing through the spaces and
deleting those with "Duplicate" in the description. Alternatively, if I go
to View/Datasheet view, I can select multiple spaces and delete a bunch of
them at once.

well, I'm not sure if I've got the same thing going on then...
I think mine might be a number I can see under 'properties > extended
data > property sets > number' showing up multiple times (from having
autogenerated a group of spaces at a time, instead of the entire floor
at once)... which would then show up as duplicates inside of FMD upon
import, even though their Name (the Space I have manually assigned) is a
unique identifier, FMD must use the 'Number' field as 'Asset' field
automagically.
So, if I deleted them from FMD, they'd just show back up again the next
time I imported an updated space plan for that floor, or I would assume
so anyway.

hmm, I've got a headache now. 🙂
