I'm looking at some future enhancements for our maintenance features. One of the questions that I am curious about is how user classify the various pieces of equipment in their facilities. This could include both building systems and other equipment that must be maintained or tracked. Items in the latter category might include photocopiers, artwork, or medical equipment.
I would like to know if maintenance managers use a standards-based clasification hierarchy such as ASHRAE or CSI, or do you just make up your own? And if you start with some industry standard, how much do you modify it?
