Hello Everybody!
I searched for quite a while and couldn't find a list of limitations for the Trial version, but so far I found:
- No Export of Video (Even ones using the Tutorial-Material)
- Watermarks everywhere
- are there any others?
And can projects set up in the Trial Version be opened in the real Version, and Vice Versa?
(To get some training materials togeteher, for example)
Thanks for your answers in advance & Greetings from Munich,
Bela

Hi Bela,
Here is the info you are looking for:
Limitations
■ A training version cannot be installed on a computer with a licensed version installed. To install a training version,
you must first uninstall the licensed version, and vice versa.
■ Export is disabled. Hence the Wiretap Server and Wiretap Central are unavailable, Output Clip is disabled, Batch Write
File node is disabled, and while you can open the Export dialog box, the Export button is disabled.
■ You cannot render using either Burn or Background Reactor.
■ The Python environment, commonly known as the Python hooks, is not available in the training edition.
■ AJA and Blackmagic hardware is not supported.
■ AAC, MPEG 2, MPEG 4 and MP3 codecs are unavailable throughout the application, including for compressed
intermediates.
■ Project collaboration between the Training Editions and licensed versions is disabled. This includes remote connection,
Wire, and archives.
■ While the Training Editions can open setups and archives created in the licensed versions, the licensed versions cannot
open setups or archives created in the Training Editions.
■ The "CutOut" option from the Paint Save menu is unavailable.
■ A watermark is added to all viewports and to all rendered files (renders, cache, etc.).

Hi Yann!
That's exactly what I was looking for
- thanks very much for the quick reply!
Greetings,
Bela
Does the limitiations also prevent importing sony mxf files?
i just tried to load in a pile of rushes that my Smoke has not problem with, but Conform in Flame is refusing to link to the media.
thanks
Adam
Hi Adam,
Does the application see the media when browsing the directories within the MediaHub?
Or is the problem located at the Conform level only?
Please let us know,
Regards,
Yann
Hi Yann,
no - Flame Training is not seeing the media, so i opened Sony Rawviewer to see if that was seeing the media, and its all there!
In Flame, both Mediahub and Conform are showing the files as empty.
Screengrabs attached...
I used this very same media a few months back in Smoke (on different mac) and it worked fine.
regards
Adam
Hi Yann,
just looked further into the metadata inside RawViewer - the sony files have the following attributes:
video codec: XAVC VBR H422IP @41 (or@51) S-Log3/S-Gamut3
i don't know if those are file types that Flame Training cannot work with.
I hope we can resolve this as i want to evaluate whether its worth the massive cost increase to upgrade from Smoke, but if i can't test Flame with the source material i get most often, then i won't be upgrading!
regards
Adam
