Maya And FBX Extension SDK Versions

I wanted to ask a question about Maya and FBX SDK versions.

I have Maya 2014 installed.

I have FBX SDK / FBX Extensions 2015.1 installed.

I have Visual Studio Express 13 installed.

Do I have to install FBX SDK/Extensions 2014.xxxx ?

Or is it ok to use FBX SDK/Extensions 2015.xxxx with Maya 2014 ?

I compiled the FBX Extension samples and placed the resulting dll's in C:/<snip>/Maya2014/bin/plug-ins/FBX.

However, I don't see anything listed in the plugin manager, and I don't see anything when I try to export something(emtpy scene, simple cone etc) as FBX .

Is this correct behavior, or am I supposed to see the sample fbx extensions in the fbx exporter dilaog window ?

By the way, I have been browsing the FBX archive downloads.

I do see FBX SDK And FBX Extensions 2014.1. But when it comes to 2014.2.1, I noticed the FBX Extensions SDK is not listed for download.

Make sure you have the latest Maya Service Pack installed (Service Pack 4 at this time).

Please also make sure the FBX SDK and Extensions SDK versions are the same as the FBX version used in your installation of Maya.

You can find Maya's FBX version in by checking the the Maya\bin\plug-ins\FBX folder.

For example, C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2014\bin\plug-ins\FBX\Presets\2014.0.1

2014.0.1 is your FBX version.
