Definative guide to Install FDSU2015

I have Plant Design Suite Ultimate installed and running fine.  Notedly, after Plant breaking I found out it doesn't play well with AutoCAD SP2.  So had to uninstall that, then all was well.

I have Product Design Suite Ultimate, running fine.

I have Building Desing Suite Premium, just for Revit and AutoCAD MEP/ACA.  Running fine.

I then needed to install Factory Desing Suite Ultimate.  Broke my Navisworks, broke my Plant, broke my Inventor.  Couldn't launch ACA anymore, even though I had licensed FDSU, it wouldn't run the tools and ACA kept saying it was not authorized to run.

Finally, in frustration and needing to get my Plant running again, I unistalled FDSU.  Navisworks magically started working again.  Product Design was happy.  Plant, I had to completely uninstall and reinstall.  Bother.  Oh and added bonus, I had to uninstall BIM360 addins for all the apps, because the reinstall of the Plant suite would crash out, "Newer Version of BIM360 Installed".

So is there any documentation, like a definative guide, "To Install FDSU, and NOT mess up all your other installs" , "What not to have installed, example Service Packs or upgrades, to install FDSU".

Anything like that?  I do need to get the FDSU tools for support of clients, so really appreciate any input.

hi there,

Regarding to the issue of ACAD SP2 not compatible with Plant, I think you need to report the issue to the Plant team.

About the FDS that broke Plant, Inventor and Navisworks, FDS team can take time to investigate the issue. We need to know more info about your environment. What type of licence you are using now? What installation order of the products(Plant, PrDS,BDS)?

Thanks,

-Xuesong

Please mark as a solution if somehow I got it right.

I have standalone licensing. My laptop crashed a few weeks ago, so I rebuilt my applications on a $B!H(Bneed now$B!I(B basis. First was Plant Design Ultimate, followed by Product Design Ultimate about a week later. No problems. I then needed Revit, so I used a Building Design Premium for that. Last week I needed Factory Design Ultimate, and since then nothing but problems.

Yesterday, I uninstalled everything, service packs first, and then the apps, except the Revit. I then installed FDSU and now it is crashing when checking for a license. The $B!H(BPlease Activate Your Product$B!I(B screen comes up, then goes milky white and the component has stopped working.

Hi Dennis -

Can you please make sure you have all recent Microsoft patches in place on your system?

I've been hearing about problems in licensing areas that were triggered by earlier MS patches. More recent updates have apparently fixed this.

If you still have problems, we should look at what exactly is going on on your system, to try to diagnose the problem.

There shouldn't be a problem having the FDS utilities installed into a PDS environment -- as long as you have the necessary serial numbers, etc.

Regards,

  Jeff

Hey Xuesong:

The Plant folks already know of the problem and have a fix that fixes the service pack that fixes other things but broke Plant, so they have a fix that fixes the fix.  Here in lies my beef, it just is aggrivating that a Service Pack in the first place has to be fixed.

On to FDSU:

I have already uninstalled all Service Packs and reinstalled everything starting first with FDSU.  Then PDSU, to get Electrical, and lastly Plant DSU.  So far, all seems well.  However, I have yet to install any Service Packs, nor the FDS 2 from subscription.

Are there any know "don't installs" of service packs for both the R1 of FDS or don't install with the FDS R2 from subscription?

I really do not want to go through this whole uninstall/reinstall again...at least not until 2016 is released.

Hi Dennis,

There are two things that need to be highliged here.

  1. If you have installed Navisworks 2015 SP3 installed, you may encounter the issue that Factory addin can not be loaded. The hotfix (FDS19103) has been released to addresses the issue.

  2. If you have upgrated Vault add-ins for either ACAD or Invenor to Vault R2, there is the compatibility issue between Vault 2015 R2 and FDS 2015( and Feature Update Pack, aka FDS R2). The hotfix (FDS19201)has also released to fix the issue.

Thanks,

-Xuesong

I have been running the hotfix (FDS19103) now for thirty minutes.  It is still Initializing.  I can't wait on it anymore.  Is this common and I am being impatient, or is there a fix to fix this?  I do have NWSP3 and FDSUtils R2 installed.  I also noticed that in my Task Manager, two Setup.exes are launched when I click the FDS10103.exe.

FDS19201 installed in about 60 seconds.

Hello, Dennis,

I am soory that you are encoutnering the issue. the hotfix FDS19103 has been included into FDUs R2. The seperately released hotfix 19103 is actaully for the people who only installed FDU 2015 update 1 but no subscription account to install FDUs R2. So you needn't to install it to adress the imcompatibel issue between NW SP3 and FDUs 2015 if you have had FDUs 2015 R2 installed.

If we validated the behavior that hotfix FDS19103 is keeping initilizating when install against FDUs R2, that should be one issue. we will log it to our issue tracking system.

thanks,

Irene
