ecotect license server cannot contact SQ1 server.

I have had enough of this issue! Over the past year my ecotect license server has had numerous issues attempting validation with the vendor license servers. This issue has affected us for years, but is now VERY problematic. My users are freaking out about not being able to use ecotect due to this, and often they lose their work when they cannot save(due to license server being down, ecotect reverts to demo mode..?).

I need to speak to someone via phone to resolve this issue, or very likely we will stop using ecotect all together. My users have deliverables which are not being met by the myriad of problems with ecotect. Since it is part of their core research this is obviously quite problematic.

Ecotect licensing has always been problematic, but has become completely unacceptable after the Autodesk takeover. Is Ecotect 5.6 out, and does it rectify this issue with a different licensing system?

I have included the licensing log for ecotect from my server, which shows that we have not authenticated to a vendor license server for over a month!

Please have someone contact me directly:

Hi Eric,

Looking at the log, it is clear that your local license service cannot connect to the internet.

Jun 23 14:10:05 2009: ERROR: Local socket error - when closing connection.
Jun 24 07:51:45 2009: ERROR: SQU1 server validation request failed.

My guess would be that your University uses a proxy server which requires a user name and password. When you login to the computer, you start a Windows session and are able to open a browser and view web-pages just like normal. This is because your browser can get the proxy details from the Registry. When the license service is running as a system service, or when no-one is logged in, it may not be able to get those details.

Having said that, it also sounds like you have been up and running on that machine periodically. Another option is that, for some reason, the license service is getting itself into a tangle and looses its ability to use sockets to communicate. This is very rare, but I did notice something like this with an old (pre 2006) license manager running in VirtualPC on a Mac where it would work fine for a couple of months and then seize up.

I will send you details for downloading the very latest license manager and Ecotect v5.60. I would suggest installing those and, if you still have the same problems, getting in touch and I'll walk you through the process as the new license manager has more extensive diagnostics that we can try out.

Hope that helps...

Kind regards,
Andrew
