XGen grooming visibility issue

I ran into an issue that causes maya to crush continuously by having turned off the grooming visibility of fur. I got a simple scene with just one model and physical sun & sky. The issue also appears in a different scene with other models.
I really need help on this issue cause I think it's a known Maya bug. 

I also send an error report to autodesk:

ERROR REPORT NUMBER: CER_104929237

Here is what I did exactly:

1. Opened my scene and loaded XGen

2. The grooming visibility (yellow preview of fur) was turend off

3. Turned it on

4. Updated the preview of the collections

5. Maya wants me to save something, the student version window shows up

6. Either if I press continue or cancel, Maya gives me the following message: "could not save file "/var/folders/1z/z10r4y_x3sjbp79v0104tlvh0000gn/T/myname.20141124.0945.ma"
7. I click OK and Maya crushes imediately

8. Error report window shows up

9. I checked my description folders in the project, before that happened, and all ptex files for fur length, width etc. were there

10. After the Maya crush the ptex files dissappeared in the folder

I am working with Maya Student Version 2015 Service Pack 5 and Mental Ray

on a Mac Book Pro OS X 10.9.5 (2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
