Ocean Fluid effect: preview plane viewport anomalies

Hi Folks,

Running into some odities with the Dynamics Ocean Preview Plane in Viewport 2.0.The video card is an nVidia Quadro 4000 and Maya 2015 SP2.

DYNAMICS > Fluid Effects > Ocean > Create Ocean > Add Preview Plane (selected)

- OR -

DYNAMICS > Fluid Effects > Ocean > Add Preview Plane

Viewport 2.0

In Viewport 2.0 the Ocean Preview Plane looks fine, but moving it around doesn't update the sample of the Preview Plane.

Legacy Viewport (Default or High)

Moving the Preview Plane around shows that the sample is changing (geometry changes shapes); however, the shader sample is near-black making it impossible to view the sample.

Is there a way to either:

- Enable updates to the Ocean Preview Plane sampler when moving it around, or
- Have the shader in Legacy Viewport mode viewable - i.e. not near-black

Cheers,

Hello,

Thank you for posting to The Area Forums.

I was able to test and replicate the problems you are seeing, in Maya 2015 Service Pack 4.

It seems that the Viewport 2.0 issue is a limitation. I will log this with our development team so that they can take a closer look at a fix.

In regards to seeing a black ocean preview plane in the legacy viewport, this is caused by double sided lighting being turned off by default. To turn this back on go to Lighting > Two Sided Lighting in your viewport. That should fix that issue.

Cheers,

David Santos
