Door flip

I've started looking at dynamic blocks for doors and I'm starting to
understand how to do this. However, I've run into a little problem.

The attached drawing contains 2 blocks, the first just uses visibility
states and the second is my first attempt at using a lookup table.
Everything in the second block seems to work OK as long as the opening width
is changed before the door swing is flipped. If the swing is flipped then
the size changed the leaf appears in the wrong place.

Can someone please help out with a better strategy for dealing with flipping
the door swing.

Also, the flip states has labels of LH and RH. How to I get those into a
table? When I've tried to generate a door schedule from this block the
swing just appears and 0 or 1.

TIA

Russ

I don't want to be a drag, but have you looked at Arch Desktop?

The doors alone are worth the price of the upgrade. Plus they are 3d objects by nature.

Thanks for the tip. Your blocks are quite neat. This is where I have
ended up with things.

we do run ADT but also have Autocad & LT so simple jobs not requiring ADT we can use our door blocks and larger jobs we use ADT

I'm having the same problem, not all our office us 3d therefore I wanted to create a dynamic block for the 2d users.

pltully your blocks don't distort when scaled and flipped, when I've tried it, they do, similar to the original post. Is there a parameter I've missed off?

Hi Kevin,

I'm afraid not. Basically that bug still exists for the time being. It
seems the work around for users is to get the opening size before flipping
the swing. Bloody annoying but I just don't know what is going.

OK Russ,

I've looked in depth into Dynamic Blocks and parameters (basically teaching myself it - as of yesterday).

Attached is a revised copy of you door style I've modified the single door (I haven't touched your double though)

Basically your problem was with the flip parameter you needed to keep it centralized between the two jambs. which if you think about it, is half the distance between your structural openings. So... if you create a stretch action, and select the structural opening parameter as the source, then select box around the flip parameter (all of the axis) and enter the distance multipler of 0.5. Then what ever structural opening or leaf size you create the flip stays in the center.

Finally, make sure that all objects are included in the flip selection.

I've also attached what I created, it may give you some ideas

hope you understand all this,

Regards

Kevin

Great. Thanks.

Actually that was stupidly obvious. Can't believe I didn't think of that...
