Blocking method ~ HELP!

Hello all,

Here's my challenge. I need to create blocked items that are made up of 6 items, each on there own layer.

I would like to be able to bring in this 'block', have it bring in 6 layers with it, and maybe bring this block in on it's own layer, so I could turn the whole thing off.

Most importantly, I need to be able to layer freeze any particular layer in this block (consisting of 6 separate layers)...

My best result is blocking each item seperately on the layer I want it to be on, but I hit the wall when I then re-block all the items together (while on the 0 layer) I can't seem to freeze anything....

I have been trying this every-which-way possible, but need a guru to say...follow these steps....

Thanks!

Let's see if this helps: Try the attached drawing. Save it and then place it on a toolpalette. Open a new drawing and insert the block from the toolpalette. Do you see how it comes in on it's own layer and creates layers for the embedded ones?

Now to freeze the nested layers in the block, try this command macro: _layfrz;b;e;

You know, I appreciate that, but it still doesn't work.

I can only manually freeze the layers thru the layer manager. I can't use the layer freeze tool.

I need to be able to use the tool since I deal with cad files from many outside sources.....

Thanks for the input!

What version of Acad do you have?

If you have at least '07, it should work. Also, if you are freezing when you're in a viewport, it might vp freeze it instead, you'll have to go through the second setting option within the command to change that part. Message was edited by: tlindell

You might have to write a lisp that does the same job as layfrz but works on layers in blocks, if your lucky some might have already written such a lisp. Try searching this forum and others for a routine

LAYFRZ does work in blocks, if you have it set to freeze "entity" instead of
"block". Check out the options under Settings.

when you use the layer freeze tool, there are options to switch from
block level selection to entity level selection. try switching that
setting. I believe the entity level will allow you to freeze a layer
within a block or xref, while the block level allows you to freeze the
layer that the block or xref itself is on.
