Plot.log or hardcopy.log

2 questions.

1 How do you permanently stop trueview 2007 build 3.0.0.136 from generating a plot.log file or a hardcopy.log file?

2 Has this on-by-default "feature" ever been of any use to anyone? Ever?

It's a pain in AutoCAD as well.
The off button just doesn't work.
It would be significantly less irritating if it were disabled by default.
Maybe after March?

Interesting that no reason has been forthcoming for the existence of this "feature".
Maybe it's just a more-is-better-than-less mentality?

I only found 397 .DLL files in the autocad 2007 directory.
Is this enough?
It has been 13 years since the decision was made to only support "DLL " as the only supported OS for autocad.
Lift your game guys - you should have topped 1000 DLL files by now.
Remember, more is better than less. Message was edited by: Discussion Admin

We would really, really like to be able to kill this feature.
If we can't do it out-of-box, can anyone suggest a hack to diasable it once & for all in both AutoCAD & Trueview?
Anyone?

I am curious as to what the business case is here. As an anal-retentive
computer user, I understand the value of not having a useful remnant file on
my hard drive. But other than that, does the existence of the log file cause
any issues?

We have about 6500 DWG files of an expected 15000 on a current project, & a database to track revisions & issues etc.

Our document controller regularly checks the number of records in the database versus the number of files in the drawing directory structure to verify the integrity of both the database & the number of stored drawings.

Every time any engineer prints a drawing, a log file is created making the number check invalid until the unwanted log files are stripped out.

No-one has to date suggested a business case for having these log files in this discussion thread. Is there one?

IMHO this "feature" would be better off disabled by default, & if anyone ever dreams up a use for it they could turn it on.

It's just a log file of what was printed. Some people use it for billing
purposes. So until we can make a registry entry that lets you turn it off,
your most expedient solution is to update the document controller to ignore
the log files. I used to get the source files for our web site from a Visual
SourceSafe (VSS) vault and push them to the web server. VSS has these little
proj.vss files that it uses to keep track and what files you have gotten the
latest version of and which files you have not. At first our web push
process would copy these useless artifact files to the web server. I had to
update the push process to avoid polluting our web servers with tiny files,
one per folder, that meant nothing on the server.

Tools>Options>Plot and publish:
Uncheck Automatically save plot and publish log under Plot and publish Log file

Tools>Options>Plot Stamp Settings>Advanced:
Uncheck Create a log file under Log file location

Quite intuitive, I thought.

(command "-PLOTSTAMP" "LOG" "NO" "PLOT.LOG" "")

As someone who just discovered that this marvelous 'feature' is also turned on in a freaking drawing viewer, this needs unchecked by default in all future versions - including full-on AutoCAD and every non-Architectural vertical.

Hey Autodesk: NOT EVERY COMPANY TRYING TO USE YOUR PENDULOUS VIEWER IS A FIRM RUN ON BILLABLE HOURS, FFS.

In autoCAD Type 'plotstamp' at the command line.  When the plotstamp properties window opens, click on the advanced button in the bottom left corner. Another window opens and towards the bottom is the option to uncheck 'create a log file' Then just ok your way out.
