Anyone experiencing the error "file not found" with IE browser when the dwf file exists and the browser is pointing directly at it?

We have Voloview Express installed that works on some pc's and not on others with no obvious pattern as to why.

Any help appreciated.

Greig:

We are using IE 5.00.2919.6307-
at least two other pc's are experiencing the same problem, one of which is at a dealer's remote site.

Also we can open dwf files locally using this IE browser-
just not on the web site. Though theses drawings were viewed using IE 4.01 from other pc ok.

Can you see this one?

BTW, watch out for spaces in your URL, substitute %20.

Sorry Terry:

Same problem : error dialog title: "Error opening drawing file".
Dialog message: "Drawing file not found: http://..... dwf".
Only way I can view is right click on hyperlink, "save target as", and "open". (opens locally just fine in browser)

This is an NT system ver 4.0 sp4, I just ran sp1 on IE5.

I've checked it from two locations (different ISP's) and it works on
both.

What if you go through this page:
http://www.dotsoft.com/temp/untitled.htm

1st site checked was NT4-SP5, IE5.5
2nd site checked was NT4-SP5, IE5.00.2314.1003

Good Luck, Terry

Hi Terry!

I tried your dwf links with IE 5.5 on NT SP6a with VVE build 129 and NO
GO!

However since I use Netscape v.4.75 most of the time (AND Netscape works
with plug-ins!), I have NO PROBLEMS!!

My suspicion is that the VVE dwf plug (ugg-- activeX... whoha... maybe
that's why adesk is workin' on service patch to the (i) 's products!!) to
IE is corrupt! I believe (from prior testing of dwf's that I did PRIOR to
VVE), that the autodesk WHIP driver plug-in worked fine in both browsers!

So, one could try re-installing the WHIP Plug-in and then see if IE would
view a dwf.

autodesk web link:
http://www3.autodesk.com/adsk/section/0,,163301,00.html

If that does not work, then one would have to un-install VVE, then install
Whip and not use VVE!

OR, better yet utilize Netscape to view dwfs!! It works just dandy with
dwfs!

I do recall that on a pc with Whip installed that it shows up in the
Netscape list of plug-ins.
Yet, when one installs VVE, it clears the whip plug-in and puts in it's
own plug-in.

THE Big difference I noticed was with Whip, one could right click a dwf
and saveas dwg!
With VVE, you can only saveas dwf or wmf!!

Also, note this link for errors with a2k/a2ki dwf outputs:
http://www3.autodesk.com/adsk/support/techdoc/0,,79904--273818-0_21841,00.html

Additionally, you might try this java app for dwf viewing:
http://www.zoomon.com/ad/cadviewer/

Let me know what you discover... Hope this info helps!

This could be a solution for you. Go to the autodesk.com web
site and from the product list select Volo View Express. From the left sash
select Support and Training > Knowledge Base > Hot Issues.

Follow the link for Volo View Express update for Internet
Explorer 5.01 users.

Also, be sure that the mime types have been setup for your
Server correctly.

Thanks for all the responses. The Voloview upgrade to IE 5.0 for "file not found" did the trick. (see last msg from Grieg Jones).
