Do our clients need to have VV3 as well?

I am new to this...we are presently using ADT3.3 and are upgrading soon to ADT4. We are also considering the purchase of VoloView 3 over Adobe Writer for clients to be able to mark up as well as plot/print our drawings. Some of our engineers we sub contract work to send us drawings in PDF format and use Adobe writer. Can we view pdf format with VV3? Do the people we send our work to with VV3 also need to have VV3? How do they view the drawings?
Thank you for your patience and answers in advance.

If people send you a PDF file, you would use the
Adobe Acrobat reader to view the PDF file. Each machine where someone wants to
view a PDF needs the reader installed. The reader is free from Adobe. You are
correct in that you would purchase the Adobe writer. You would need one writer
for each machine where you want to create a PDF.

If people send you a set of DWG files
(including XREFs, images, fonts, etc.), you would use Volo View to view the
DWG files. Each machine where someone wants to view a DWG
needs Volo View installed. So the people you send your work to would
need Volo View. Volo View is $195 from Autodesk. You can get it for $49
through July. You have already purchased AutoCAD which is the DWG
writer. You have one copy of AutoCAD for each machine where you want
to create a DWG.

If you want to use a nonPDF strategy that is more in line with what Adobe
is doing:

If people send you a DWF file, you would use
the Autodesk Express Viewer to view the DWF file. Each machine where someone
wants to view a DWF needs the Autodesk Express Viewer installed.
The Autodesk Express Viewer is free from Autodesk. You have already
purchased AutoCAD which is the DWF writer. You have one copy of
AutoCAD for each machine where you want to create a DWF.

So you have choices:

(a) buy the PDF writer (which costs money) but allows everyone to view for
free (and they probably already have the Acrobat viewer)

(b) use AutoCAD as the DWG writer (which is money you've already spent) but
the people you send your work to would need to buy Volo View (which costs
money)

(c) use AutoCAD as the DWF writer (which is money you've already
spent) and allow everyone to view for free (they would have to
download/install the Autodesk Express Viewer)

VV3 will allow you to view AutoCAD file formats,
and some raster based information.  You will not be able to view a PDF in
VV3.  For your clients they would have to have VV3, ACAD 2004, or ADT4 to
view your files.  Another option is to send your drawings as DWF's and
have your outside contacts use the Express Viewer, which is free.  I would
highly suggest testing out the DWF before using it.  We are currently using
the DWF option, but a lot of people are using PDF's because it's such a standard
file format.  I personally like using either a PDF or DWG because you keep
your DWG data within your own company.
