Is there a white paper, etc explaining DWFs?

There is a good article in the last AugiWorld magazine, which details what
DWF is, and the future of DWF. Just become an AUGI member (Autodesk Users
Group International) at www.augi.com (it's free! and a good resource.)

Also check

psst Scott, look in the classified NG 🙂
I think Mr. Goldberg is looking for a little bit more from the AD side. I
read that article by the way and does give a lot of info.

I have attached the DWF White paper in both DWF and PDF. You can also get
general information at:

www.autodesk.com/dwf

I want to be clear though, PDF is the best format when it comes to office
based documents like Word; however, I did want to demostrate that you can
create a DWF out of any windows system application with the DWFwriter. We
do know there are some limitations and we will address some of those
limitations in future releases. BTW, you can find the DWFwriter at the
following URL:

www.autodesk.com/dwfwriter

Tony,

I could really put the dwfwriter to good use if there was a way to print to
it from a VB application. What would be needed is an API so you could feed
the dwfwriter (printer) a file name.

Bob,

The DWFWriter is a Windows Printer Driver; as such, there is no external API that
we provide for it. Quickly checking the Microsoft Knowledge Base,
however, the following articles might be of interest to you:

Thanks for your reply.

I know that the Adobe PDFWriter has an option that you can write a string to
the registry that contains the path / file name and it won't prompt you for
the file name when printing. Can you do something like this with the
dwfWriter?

Bob,

The current version of the DWFWriter was written specifically to support
Revit 5.1. There is direct communication between this application and the
driver to provide information about and to the DWF, including the filename.
This fact is mostly what makes DWFWriter 1.0 "officially support Revit
only." Anyhow, the answer to your question is no, it is not possible to
suppress the filename dialog in this version of the driver.

except that only the PDF attachement shows. I am guessing the DWF
portion is what came through as text junk. It seems like something
isn't recognizing the DWF mime type.
