Do you have others measure your drawings?

Hi there,

I work for the Extended Design Group here at Autodesk. We are trying to locate customers, mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area, that work with people who are not using AutoCAD and measuring their drawings. We want to better understand how these people are using measurements and how accurate measuring needs to be. This would be someone who is not a current user of AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.

If you are interested in helping our team out we would very much like to speak with you! Please contact me,

We recently began implementing Productstream and we use the PS explorer for our machinists to access the engineering data. On occasion the engineer will forget to dimension a bearing bore or something. When this happens it would be much nicer if the machinist could measure the dwf down to the .00001 inch. Otherwise they have to contact the engineer and have them measure it since the DWF does not have the resolution.

This is very helpful to us in the Extended Design Group. We are trying to better understand those who consume design information, like the machinists.

Do your machinists have their own computer where they analyze the design in PS explorer or are they be looking at the design on some shared computer on the shop floor?

Let me know if you are willing to share a bit more with the extended design team. We honestly are trying to learn more about this often silent user. Feel free to e-mail me off list.

Thanks,

Our Engineering firm is in the process of handing over an interface that was built from C# using the DWF api information to some clients that have buildings all over the world. Their need is that they have structural engineers, and steel workers, adding, maintaining and constructing new areas to already existing buildings. They need to use the information in the field to measure to the 1/16 of the inch in areas where they are going to implement reinforcements to truss, hanger, connections, and other details. The buildings are huge and can take up many city blocks. I have successfully been able to provide hyperlinked documents and tables for their use, which in turn they will measure and markup the dwf, then send them back for some of our engineers that are hired to alter or design new steel reinforcement, or even structures to add on to the buildings. We are just one of the many structural engineering companies they deal with, but are very interested in seeing a finer detail in this area. One of the grips right now is the measurement markup seems to be to large when we plot out the entire building, for printing out, even when set to 8pt for the measurement markup.
