Problem printing dwf's made from Inventor 7 idw files

When someone tries to use Autodesk Express Viewer to print a dwf made from an Inventor 7 idw file, only a corner of the drawing prints - even though the picture displays fine. It doesn't matter what kind of printer. DWF's made from the same computer using AutoCAD 2004 print fine from AEV. The idw's plot fine from Inventor 7. Any Ideas? I have 75 dwf's that are now (hopefully not) useless!

If you can post the files, we can take a look at them and see what's going
on.

I have posted an example file on the cutomer file site. Let me know if you need more.

I am also having the said problem, when I view a dwf file that has multiple sheets with Express viewer - the first sheet is perfect, but all remaining sheets are offset from the backround, causing only a Fraction (normally the bottom left corner) of the drawing sheet to end up on the printed sheet. I would also appreciate any help here.

What authoring app created the multiple-sheet
DWF?  AutoCAD 2004 or one of its variations?

The multiple sheets are a feature of Inventor 7, idw files. I've just discovered that none of the sheets within the dwf files are centering on the print backround now. Is this a common problem?

We're trying to determine that.  You state
that the first page is fine.  What happens when you go to another page,
then come back to the first page.  If my guess is correct, the first page
will at that point be toast as well.

Has anyone successfully printed a dwf file made from Inventor 7 using Express Viewer?

This is a PITA. I'm also having this problem.

This looks like it could be a bug with AEV 3.1 as a colleague had a (I think) 3.0 version installed and never saw this problem.

The only workaround is print the "Current View" rather than "Full Page" (in 'Print What' in the Print dialogue).

It looks to me like the origin of the IDW, bottom left of the drawing border is being transposed to the centre of the page in the DWF.

Your able description "transposes the origin" got me to try a few things...with the View set to "show paper background" I selected a view rectangle offset from the origin by the amount transposed in the print - ie the LLC of the view was in the center of the drawing instead of at the true origin, selecting a box roughly the same size of the drawing. Low and behold the whole drawing was printed out centered using the print current view setting.

Is the problem somehow related to paper view parameters? - sometimes if drawing is opened in AEV, the paper background is transposed from the drawing on the screen by an amount similar to the undesired printing offset. I pulled up another drawing - with View/show paper background - off, zoomed all, and Bingo it printed as you said with the print current view selected.

Of course when I first had the problem I contacted my AutoDesk reseller, emailed him some dwf's and they printed out fine without the nonsense described above. So curious I emailed some dwf's to my house and installed the AEV (Dell P4 2GHz XP) - same problem (just like my customers had).

We have logged this as a defect for AEV. In the meantime, the workaround to
printing DWFs produced by Inventor is to get the full drawing into your view
and print current view as you have found out.

I have another problem with DWF files from Inventor. Using VBA code to create them if it
is run one at a time the DWF files are just fine, but if it is batch processed the font
comes out very small and lines will be missing etc. In the code, there is a loop to make
sure the views are precise so it isn't that.

I came across some code that makes a old style DWF and using it fixes the font problem.
Why would the old style work and not the new style?

I would be more than happy to supply anyone interested with the programs necessary to show
this problem.

Hi Kent,

Can you post some code to show how you batch create the dwf files?

Sorry, the source code isn't freeware. 8^) If you are really interested in the Source
contact me offline.

I would however have no problem letting the developers have the source if they end up
looking into this. I am really not sure if it is a problem with DWF or a problem with
Inventors API or ??

You can download my app from my site though
http://www.mymcad.com/KWiK/mcad.htm
Click on iCode, and then go to the iBatchRun page.

The Saveas macro is the one that ends up with goofed up font, and the SaveasDWF one
doesn't. The SaveAs on the web site doesn't have the loop to make sure the views are
precise, but we tested with a copy that I added that to and it didn't make any difference.

I can take a look at it if you can send it over.
