DWF Viewer not working.

I have W2K, IE 6.0, AutoCAD 2007 and tried to upgrade DWF viewer.
When viewer is started all it puts up is title bar and window outline. Task manager says not responding. Only way to close is with task manager.
Have tried uninstall and reinstalling with out helping.
Is there any fix for this?
Thanks for any help.

You have set your IE security settings too high, you are
killing the viewer.

Internet Explorer>Properties>Security Tab, select every
category and hit the DEFAULT button. Then APPLY and OK, shut
down IE, reinstall the viewer and you will be fine.

W2k needs to be SP4 patched.

Hi,

we have the same problem in our company.
After starting DWF Viewer 7 (Version 7.0.0.928), it hangs and nothing happens for 5-10 Minutes. then it comes up.

I tracked down the problem:
- Nothing to do with user rights.
- Nothing to do with IE settings ore something else in the environment

- Workstations are only affected, if there was DWF Viewer 6.5 installed (and used!!!) before.
Seems that the uninstall of Version 6.5 leaves something on the machines that kills Version 7.
A similiar Problem is with DWG Trueview 2007 and Inventor Viewer 11 (will post there).

At the moment 500 users can not work in our company.

Please Autodesk, you killed 500 machines in our company - so get a solution!!!
Normally you are just killing "only" design machines with new version.
Will there be a chance that you release once a product that do not crash. Or that you test it - only once? Just try to start Inventor or MDT (9, 10 or 11) with default user rights (anything else is no testing!!!). Ever had that idea?

Sorry, I am really sucked up.

Waiting for your reply

Hi,
we had the same problem in our company.
I searched for solution for a long time and I found it.
You must disable the Autoupdate from the DWF-Viewer in the registry of Windows.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AUTODESK\DWF VIEWER\SETTINGS\AUTOUPDATE and / or to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\AUTODESK\DWF VIEWER\SETTINGS\AUTOUPDATE and set the value of "URL" blank and it works.

Hi Klaus,

thanks a lot - works perfectly!

If I can do something for you (msi-package for this fix, getting Inventor Series working with user rights,...), let me know!

Best regards
Clemens

Wow, I've been trying to solve this problem for ages and you've finally given me the solution (there are several other threads here that never get to the bottom of it!)

Now if only Autodesk would pay a blind bit of attention and fix it properly...

Have Autodesk a solution for this problem in Autodesk DWF Viewer 7.2 CAB installation? Most of our 3000 users will get the installation automatic from the WEB and we have gone back to 6.5 from a 2 day session with 7.0.

Hi Klaus,
Great work it finally is working.
How do you find those obscure fixes?
Another reason to bypass the manual.
Does Autodesk monitor these forums on a timely basis for their own benefit ?
It appears not.
Thanks again.

Rock on internet and p2p info. sharing.

I think you should try the service pack. Your problem does not sound
familiar. Every system is different. They each have different combinations
of software. It is hard to be specific about what is wrong.

We have many employees who read these hourly. When we know the answer to a
problem, we provide it. When we do not know the answer, we do not.

Hi,

I've been using computers for years, but have yet to discover how to, as Klaus put it "go to" the HKEY file that he mentioned.
Can anyone enlighten me about this?

Thanks in advance,
Martin.

BRILLIANT!!!

It worked a like a charm!

I just went into the file mentioned above and deleted the URL for the update - no problems.

Thanks a bundle,
Martin.
