API and Compatibility with Whip

The main complaint with Voloview was it did not have the full API that Whip
did. How does the new Express API compare?

Could you have Express and Whip installed on the same computer?

Yes, you can have both WHIP and Express installed on the same computer.
Each of these ActiveX controls has its own class ID GUID, so if you author
HTML pages with embedded DWF files you can specify which of the two viewers
you would like instantiated. The same holds for when you are embedding one
of these viewers in your own custom application (like VB, etc.).

However, only one application can be registered to open the DWF file from
Windows Explorer. When you double-click on a DWF file in Windows Explorer,
the last viewer application that you installed is the one that will be
launched to view the DWF (either WHIP or Express).

The Express API will be growing in the next release. If you need time to
transition and need the old WHIP API, theWHIP viewer is still available at
the ftp://ftp.autodesk.com/pub/whip area as it always has been.

Brian,

The Express Viewer looks great!

I would like to move my VB application from Whip! to Express when the API
has been further developed.

Here are a few things I would like to see added to the Express View API.

1. Bypass the Express print dialog box and control the print settings via
the API. This would allow batch printing of dwf files.
2. Add a watermark or text to the print. Currently I use the merge dwf
feature of the Whip! API.
3. Disable the right-click menu.

Could you also put back the drag and drop functionality of the Whip! Viewer?

No one is going back to WHIP! to do anything: it's a dead (though much
appreciated) product.

I think he means can you add the drag and drop functionality of WHIP! to
Autodesk Express View.

Brian,

I agree with Bob on controlling the printing via the API. We would love to
be able to write batch print functions.

Thanks

Tony

That's exactly what I was asking. How about it Autodesk? Would it be that hard?

We will look at adding this in. I suspect it may be
more like i-Drop.
