AEV Update?

Do we have a time line on the next release or update to AEV. Is it going to have move Visual Basic API's built in? Can we get a date on the release?

We just release AEV 3.1.0.92 which is basically a service pack release. It
contains fixes for some Windows 98 problems reported by customers.

The next major release of AEV is currently slated in early-mid fall.

How do we get it? I tried using the built-in update option yesterday. It
opened up a MS-DOS window that used up 100% of my system for over 10
minutes, before I killed it. Is anyone else having problems with the auto
update? Is there somewhere we can download the SP or do we need to download
and install the entire new version? If so, are we going to need to supply
Autodesk with our personal information EVERYTIME we download a new version?

So did this update contain any of the updates to the API's that were talked about in previous posts?

The main API control I am interested in is the ability to control a hyperlink the same way we could control it with DoNavigateToURL Event in VoloView. Was this put in this update, if not is it still going to be included at some point and if so will we have to wait till mid to late fall for the next major update?

Subu,

Will this next release support additional functionality like mouse-over
events while being viewed from a web browser?

That's really something I'd like to see. Either that or some way to have
multiple hpyerlinks attached to a single entity. The mouseover events
would be so I could display a popup window of multiple HTML hyperlinks
when a particular object is hovered/picked. If AutoCAD/Adesk Express
Viewer supported multiple hyperlinks to the same entity, I'd imagine I
wouldn't need this functionality.

Hi there!
I thought that this release would fix the "viewing" webpages with DWF
problems in win98, but when I click the Print button and then Cancel, the
image "runs" to the top left corner of the screen.
Disapointing...

Could I add a few things as wishes to be incorporated into upcoming AEV
updates, or ask for suggestions for alternatives?

The first thing we NEED is the "Full View" option such as the Whip! viewers
had. We need this because we have thumbnail pages of hundreds of details,
each thumbnail 240x240 pixels. When a user wants to examine a detail, he
simply right-clicks for Full View. Trying to inspect files in a 240x240
window is impossible!! For this reason alone, we are limited to using the
Whip! viewer - there is no alternative.

Assuming you could incorporate the above, give us the ability to have the
menu turned off in embedded dwf files by default. There's nothing worse than
a page full of embedded dwf files, each with their own menu.

Lastly, please fix the printing problem when using an intranet, (won't
print). As several others here have pointed out, there is a problem printing
over an intranet when using AEV in IE, but not when using the Internet. Many
users in this newsgroup have mentioned this problem, we're using a standard
Windows 2000 network.

I'm located right up the road in Novato from Autodesk HQ, if anyone involved
would like to come by and see the printing problem demonstrated.

Yes, the next viewer release will have a very rich event set. Lots of
customization and UI control will be available through the API and event
mechanism.

I would like to suggest a solution using AEV. Why not make a link for each
thumbnail that navigates a page with a larger version of the dwf?

Unfortunately not. While new
features and changes will be in a future update this release was fixes some
known problems.

Well, this is just a whole lot of extra work creating both the thumbnail
pages and the extra html pages with large images when Whip! gave us this
functionality seamlessly. I thought newer products were supposed to make
things easier, not a bunch more work...

Creating the second html page is not necessary. After AEV is installed you
can point IE directly at the dwf file. You may want to try something like:

object classid="clsid:A662DA7E-CCB7-4743-B71A-D817F6D575DF" id="AdView"
width="450" height="300">

param name="Src" value="dwf/myFile.dwf">

/object>

a href= dwf/myFile.dwf target=_blank>Open myFile.dwf In a New Window /a>

NOTE: I left off the opening '<' off so the news reader will not parse the
html.

Or if you need the file to be in an html page you could create a single
dynamic page that takes the dwf file as a parameter. Then you will only need
to create one page that opens the correct dwf file.

Hopefully one of these suggestions will help 🙂

I'll play around with this. In the meantime, Whip! fills our needs very
nicely...
