Mac Right-Click Menu UI Lag

I'm getting UI lag, mostly when navigating the right-click menu.

It's most prominent on my 5,1 Mac Pro & 4k display at a scaled resolution. Running at default reso or low dpi of the same scaled reso helps marginally.

The lag is also present on my new maxed out 15" MacBook Pro, however it's totally usable, just distracting. When running the 4k external display off the MBP, the lag isn't as bad as the MP, and a bit worse than the MBP with no external display.

Viewport navigation is silky smooth in all scenarios and turning off "high resolution graphics" or "limiting effects to optimize performance" does nothing for the right-click lag. I'm running "OpenGL Core Profile" driver and no other programs are open.

MP has a GTX 680, MBP has a Radeon 460. External display is a LG 27UD88 running at 3008 x 1692 for both machines.

I'm assuming the is graphics card related and there's nothing I can do but you would think the new maxed out MBP would have no lag whatsoever though..

MP, most prominent lag:

Thank you for your submit!

I'm able to reproduce it also on my MacBook Pro late 2013.

If the right-click menu is open I see lot of activities of Fusion application in Activity Monitor.

That's definitely a bug.

Could you please confirm that you also see the rush in Activity Monitor while right-click menu is open?

Many thanks!

Yes, CPU load goes up dramitcally with the right-click menu on my Mac Pro. Interestingly, it goes up even more during veiwport navigation of a medium complexity model but the framerate remains high. The lag only occurs badly with the right-click menu and slightly with other UI interactions.

Idle:

Right-Click:

Viewport Navigation (I am running a 4k display at a scaled resolution):

I was between buying a new video card, or moving on from the Mac Pro completely, as I only need it to do two things well: Keyshot (which it performs very well) and Fusion 360 (which is great except for this right-click menu and some other UI lag). Really hoping this gets worked out soon if its a bug as it is killing workflow efficiency.

Thanks mate!

@sambirchenough

Great, many thanks for validation!

I informed our dev team about this problem and I'm sure fix will be ready very very soon.

Thanks again!

I support this!

I also have right click lag on my 5K display connected to my MBP 15" 2016 with a 460 Pro card. On the integrated display it is OK.

Thank you for trying to fix this 🙂

Any news on the fix for this? No UI lag would make my workflow much much more enjoyable and efficient. Thanks!

In the meantime have you used the tool shelf yet you can conjure up with the "s" key ?

You can place icons/tools in it as you like and It is context sensitive.

Appreciate the suggestion! I use it occasionally but haven't retrained myself to use it as a go-to in normal workflow. Will make more of an effort.

I am with Fusion since it was in Beta and I have to say because of general lag issues I hardly ever use the RMB menu at all.

I did not see the reported lag - my main lag issue is with RMB and gestures and then Fusion starts to draw blue mouse line noodles

all over the screen rendering the RMB gesture system a hit n miss and thus pointless to use at the moment on Macs.

Yep, same here. I really like that gesture concept but it is a miss and hit. Interestingly enough I am experiencing the same on the high spec Surface Book I have in terms of gestures.

The blue noodles, not so much.

@TrippyLighting @cekuhnen you both are right. The general lag in context menu (even if it's smaller then reported by @sambirchenough) is really annoying and make work with it uncomfortable.

UI devs are trying to figure out what could cause this problem. Will keep you posted.

I really appreciate you help with this!

Thanks,

Kamil

No worries.

to be honest gesture menus are cool only if you can configure the marking menu which currently in Fusion you cannot

so the RMB menu is less useful.

The only instance where it currently for me adds benefit is when in the sketch engine I have the sketch palette hidden

and use the RMB menu to add sketch constraints.

The S toolshelf menu is so fast. I can configure it. It adapts to what ever mode I am in which is the most glorious selling point!

It does not wast a lot of space. Sadly it misses the ability to display the sketch constraints.

If we could get a key to repeat the last command like in Rhino (RMB or what ever) than the marking menu for me has no value at all

as there are faster ways to access functions already present in Fusion.

Great observations @cekuhnen!

Keyboard shortcut for repeating the last command is in our plan. So I assume it will be implemented very soon.

I noticed the same issue with my 5K iMac. It does not have the lag on my MacBook Pro.

Any news on a fix?

I've got this issue going on as well. I have an iMac 5K (17,1).

The issue is still present with the last version (2.0.3133). Very annoying.

Agreed - still my biggest F360 annoyance.

Hello, it is still very laggy on 5K display with the last 2.0.3410 version, even with 16GB of RAM and the 460 Pro GPU.

On the MBP integrated display, it is working fine.

Please correct this bug...

I have the same problem on my macbook pro 15" 2017.
The mac has very good specs so it should not be an issue.

Its completely fine when i work on the internal display, but with a 32" monitor, the right click menu lags alot!
Did the fusion team throw this problem away from the backlog? Is there a solution?
