Transparent Colors Printing Opaque in PDF

I'm having a problem with ADR2010 (with Hotfixes 1 & 2 installed) trying to print transparent objects (e.g. area shades) to PDF. These obects come out opaque. Before applying Hotfix 1, the genreal quality of PDF file was very low, Hotfix 1 eliminated this problem, but transparent objects are still coming out in solid colors. "Turning data into a bitmap before printing" as recommended in the post from whtank (6/17/09), fixes the tranparency problem, but degrades back the general quality of PDF. Would appreciateany futher help or info on this.

I am having this same problem. Have you found a resolution to this problem?

Thank you for your question.
You can improve the printing output quality by setting higher DPI for your printer.
Please follow these steps to set the DPI for PDF printer:

1. Open the 'Print' dialog from ADR.
2. Choose the printer you want to use from printer list.
3. Click the button 'Properties...' on the right of printer list.
4. A dialog named '*Document Properties' pops up, then click the tab 'Paper/Quality' from this dialog.
5. Click button 'Advanced...' in this tab and a dialog named '*Converter Advanced Options' pops up.
6. There is an item called 'Print Quality' in this dialog. You can choose a DPI from the DPI list.
I hope that my suggestions are helpful.

It will not print at a higher print quality it just stops printing and does not do anything. The only way I can get the colors to turn transparent on my color priners is to use the convert image to bitmap before sending to printer option. However if I do this on a PDF it shows that print status and takes forever to print. When it does print it comes out all messed up. See the attached PDF for what it turns out. The highlighting shows up correct, but the sheet does not as you can see here.

When you use the color highlight feature in ADR you can get it to convert to a PDF and look correct?

I use this program for highlighting while I do estimating. So I would like to send off PDF's because they are industry standard and it just makes it easier.

The low quality of output is caused by PDF driver while using 'Turning data into a bitmap before printing' option.
I have logged a bug for the issue.

Most printers do not print white. The ones that do are very expensive.
All inks are semi-transparent, so you can't lay a transparency on top of a background. The background has to be part of the same file as the transparency.
When designing transparencies for overhead projectors, don't consider the transparency the final image. Overhead projectors, project an image on to a white panel or wall. That effectively replaces the white background you see when working in CorelDraw.
If you have objects under a white object on the page and they are still printing, showing the object underneath, you may have overprint turned on for the bottom object. Right click the object that's showing through and make sure Overprint Outline and Fill are off.
Hope this helps.

Very few printers will actually print totally opaque, especially on transparent sheets. Especially if it's an inkjet, but even lasers won't do it completely either.

Has a solution ever been found for this? I am having similar problem using AutoCAD LT2007, using the latest version of Design Review 2013. Everything looks fine in .DWF, but prints to an opaque shape when printed to .PDF - Thank you.
