Script Error

Can anyone explain this error or recommend any script settings for IE so we can save our mark-ups

Hi Steve,

I don't recall ever seeing this particular error message before so i'm going to need to do a little investigation into this one. Can you please tell me what Operating System (incl Service Pack) and version of Internet Explorer you are currently using?

Also, could you please tell me the general steps you are taking to get to this error? Thanks!

Thanks Scott your quick response is much appreciated 🙂

XP Pro Sp2 (with at least 25 updates)
IE 7.0.5730.11

Our user was opening a 3D dwf created From IV11 sp2, he created a snap shot and placed a few mark-ups, then when he tried to "save as" or "save" it displayed the error noted above, when answering yes or no the results are the same, "failed to save".

I did change his Security Level in IE7 from Medium-High to Medium and the problem went away? I tested this on my machine (same builds) with no issue. We have about 20 users marking up with DR and this is the first script error? ...doesn't seem to be across the board here. Also I have local admin rights and he does not?

Hi Steve,

I dug through our defect database and found a defect that sounds very similar to the issue you're seeing (although the exact script error is different in this other case).

At any rate, the similar defect I located was fixed in our ADR 2008 release (which just went live last week). Would it be possible for the user experiencing the problem to try installing our latest release and see if that resolves the problem for you (without having to lower your IE security settings)? The new ADR release is posted at www.autodesk.com/designreview.

Thanks

thanks...I will try that

First I will reset the default IE Security Settings then see if the issue is consistent, then apply the 2008 ver.

Hmmm...I'd bet this is an IE7 thing...but I thought that the SP1 should have fixed that script error.

Do you have DWF Viewer 7 or Composer 2 installed as well as Design Review? Just curious.

DWF Viewer 7...yes because of the forced install of IV11. No composer was never installed on these machines.

DWF Viewer 7 Builds...
DWF(TM) toolkit: 7.2.0.297
Whip(TM) toolkit: 7.7.601.297
Heidi(TM): 8.2.38.20

Exactly where is the error coming from? I mean, does it show up when you open an HTML file with an embedded DWF in IE7? Or does it happen when you launch ADR?

I'm just wondering which program on your system is registered in Windows Explorer to open DWF file, and if patching DWF Viewer would solve the problem?

Just some thoughts.

ADR is the default to open on all systems here, the problem comes from the "save" command from one particular pc, but when I set the security setting on IE to medium it works fine?

Script Error Again!!!

This time it's with ADR 2008!

...same person, no one else is getting this issue, the only thing I am aware of is this gentlemen streams internet radio while he works?

Any suggestions?

As I have said a few times while discussing script errors - these are subtle
timing problems in our software. There are thousands of events that fire
during a person's use of Autodesk Design Review. If these events happen in
an unexpected order, then a script error occurs. Our job is to design the
system so that these events can occur in any conceivable order. We have come
close, but our current design is not perfect. We have a project underway,
called Colorado, where we are addressing our architecture for messaging so
we can further improve our ability to not have scripting errors. So
obviously the continuous streaming of internet radio affects the timing of
events on this user's system and causes one of them to show up when our code
is not expecting it.

Scott thanks for in depth explanation. I have instructed them to stop streaming audio and it seems to be working just peachy 🙂

Thanks again

I know the silence will be deafening - but at least he can use the
application.
