Please Help: Can't Uninstall Design Review 2007

Please Help!
I'm trying to install the new Design Review 2008 but can't because I can't
uninstall DR 2007.
When I try to uninstall or modify it (from the "Add/Remove program" part of
the Control Panel, I get the following message:

"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the
source exists and that you can access it".

I've tried it with the installation disk in the drive and as the
administrator and still nothing.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Art

Hi Art,

It sounds like Add?remove programs is not finding the installation source for the ADR 2007 installation. One thing you can try is to look in the following location:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\

and look inside the set of folders there for one containing the file "SetupDesignReview.msi". If you find that file, double-click the .msi file and follow the dialog prompts to Remove the ADR 2007 application.

Thanks Scott for the prompt response.
That file doesn't exist in the C:\Windows|Downloaded Installations\ folder
(although I did find the installation .msi for the trial version, which was
replaced by the current version).

I tried to "fool" it by copying the said file from the installation CD to
that directory but to no avail.

My 2007 Design Review was not downloaded; it was installed from a CD (if
that makes any differences).

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Art,

One other thing you can try (if you haven't tried this already) is to invoke the Autodesk Design Review.msi file directly from the \ADR folder on the CD. Please give that a try and let me know if that does any better for you.

This is a fairly long winded solution but it might work and it's definitely one of those "try at your own risk" suggestions!

If you first look into the Event Viewer from the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel and look for events in the Applications log whose source is "MsiInstaller" you should be able to determine the Product Code (the unique identifier) for the program which is listed in the bottom of the event in the format {04350-gkjrg-ergerg-egerg}.

Failing that, if anyone from AutoDESK was kind enough to provide the product ID for the program? Each program has it's own unique product code and this is a reference to the software when it's installed on the machine.

Then try the following:

msiexec /x {04350-gkjrg-ergerg-egerg}

Refer to the following if this doesn't work:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/227091

Then as a very last resort you could try getting hold of MSIZAP, but it's a pain to get hold of.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll try it later and let you know what happens.

So far, I've struck out with all the suggestions.
I've tried copying the Setupdesignreview.msi to the C:\windows\downloaded
installations folder and tried to uninstall from there: No luck
I've tried uninstalling from the CD: No luck
I've tried using the MSIEXEC /x setupdesignreview.msi {program code}: No
luck (I don't know what the program code is but i opened the
setupdesignreview.msi in a texteditor and tried to use all the codes within
braces that appeared in the file in the hope that one of them would work).

I hope someone has another suggestion to try, if not, my next step is to
waiting until my Acad2008 arrives and uninstall 2007, purge all the
directories where anything Autodesk resides, and purge the registry of any
reference to Autodesk, Autocad, dwg, dwf in the hope of cleaning out the
system and trying to install fresh. That or reformat .... NOT!

Thanks again for all the suggestions and if any other suggestions are out
there, I'd be greatful to hear them.

Hi again,

Sounds like i might need to work with you more 1:1 to try and figure this one out. Can you please e-mail me with your contact info and a convenient time when I can call you tomorrow? My schedule is actually pretty much open in the morning (9:30am - 12pm PDT)

Thanks
