Design Review 2007 Startup locks-up

I just received in the mail our box containing our seats of Design review 2007. Well i went around the office yesterday and installed DR07 on everyones machine, before that I un installed DWF Composer 2. Once I got DR07 installed on everyones machine I started getting phone calls with complaints. Many people (About 75%) of the users are having the startup lock up.

What happens is when they double click the DR07 icon, the program starts up but once the program border that says DR07 shows, the program either goes white, or transparent and all you see is the border of the program? Whats also strange is it immediately goes from responding in the task manager to not responding 1 or 2 seconds after you double click the icon? This is on about 15 machines in the office?

I saw someone replied in the DWF NG to mess with the Internet options and security settings, tried that but didn't seem to have any effect.

So on one of the problem machines, I un-installed DR07 and reinstalled DWF Composer 2, and started up perfectly?

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas, as many other offices, DWF & Design review is a vital aspect to our office, and I need to get everyone up and running. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks,
Mark Douglas,

Our QA is investigating the issue.

What happens if you install DWF Composer R2 and then install ADR 2007? We
are worried this is some install issue where a remnant from R2 is not being
replaced by ADR07.

Mark,

Another thing we'd like to know is if you can identify any common thread among all your computers that either failed or worked? This could be either a software or hardware issue. It could even be a driver issue. Generally speaking it is a good idea to keep your graphics card drivers current. Some users have reported that updating their graphics drivers has ended some of their crashes.

And were all the failures identical, or did ADR07 fail to install or fail to run in different ways?

Also, which Autodesk DWF products do you have installed? DWF Writer? DWF Viewer?

Ok I've found the solution finally!! And I think it might have something to
do with our Internet Firewall. If a user has his internet turned ON Design
review crashes immediately at startup. If the user has NO internet
connection then DR07 opens as expected.

I remembered from looking on Scotts blog that there was a registry setting
for turning off updates. I modified the 3 registry settings that Scott had
on his BLOG and tested on a computer that was having problems with the
internet ON and OFF and ADR07 works as expected. Actually opens faster than
it did before.

Im thinking that it was trying to check for updates and was getting stuck in
our firewall, or something?

Was there a check for updates change between DWF Composer 2 and ADR07?
Because once I removed ADR07 (when it wasn't working) and put DWF Composer 2
back on it worked perfectly? And DWF Composer 2 did not have any registry
update stuff changed?

Anyways, hope this helps in you're guys investigation, and thanks for
posting that tip on your BLOG Scott.

That's great news Mark. I'll dig into firewall issues with ADR07 and see
what I can find. Thanks!
