Hi Claas, the simple answer is, you are right, snapping to grid only happens in sketch editing mode.

Since you have noticed the difference, I'd like to share a bit more information about the design: actually the grids in sketch environment and outside sketch are different. We call them sketch grid and layout grid respectively. The major visual difference is, sketch grid has axis labels and layout grid doesn't. As the name indicates, the sketch grid is for creating/editing sketch geometries and it will gone when exit the sketch environment. I think one of the considerations to disable snapping in layout grid is it's not frequently used outside of sketch but it will impact the performance (since you need to to track every mouse move).

Hi there,

thank you for the explanation.

However I do not understand why this was implemented in this way. Every CAD app I work with just offers a grid to use.

I noticed that the Grid system in Fusion in general can slow the UI down in some cases but maybe this could be addressed

so the grid snapping outside of the sketch works as well.

Otherwise there is then no point or reason to be able to drag spline points outside the sketch.

The nice aspect of draging things outside is that when you work on more complex design (organic stuff and not gear boxes)

is that in the sketches you put down your input curves then you create your surfaces and then adjust and fine tune the profiles if needed.

In Alias I just move or edit the curves and their CVs and being forced to enter edit sketch is not really ideal because everything done after

the sketch I do not see. Further when I am outside a sketch draging a point updates the sketch and thus instantly updates all following

surfacing commands.

Sketch points can snap out side of the sketch to sketches or body edges already. Grid snap is simply missing as a crucial tool
