Just installed Fusion 360 and I can't see anything.

I just installed the program, it gave me a warning that my graphics card might not be up to the task of running everything, so I clicked the graphics diagnostis and checked the limit all effects to provide optimum performance box.  After that the entire screen is gray, I was able to perform the first tutorial(lamp base) with the screen all gray.  Objects only show up when I have the mouse over the object.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling once already, as well as logging out and back in.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Can you please let us know your graphics card configuration(GPU and its hardware driver version)? You can get this info in Computer->Device manager->Display Adapters->Driver. If your graphics card driver is too old (e.g., more than 3 years ago), then it is likely you could run into this kind of display issues(we once observed similar issues on some old Intel graphics card drivers). Please try to download/install the latest graphics card driver from your GPU vendor website.

Thanks

Replying to my own issue here in case it helps.  First, I meant 'gray', not 'great' (autocorrect).  My Fusion downloaded an update today.  I closed and re-opened and the gray screen is not currently happening.  I'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens again and if I can figure out what triggers it.  For now, it's nice to see again.  🙂  As always, great product that keeps improving.  Keep going!

@Anonymous In some cases it is helpful to uninstall the current driver first.

The below link walks through this process.

http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Graphics-Drivers

Note that after uninstalling, you will run on the VGA which will make the graphics look really bad. This is OK, do not worry!

Next, per the suggestion @James.Youmatz made in this thread, you should install the latest driver from the Intel website, below.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81507/Graphics-Drivers-for-Mobile-Intel-4-Series-Express-Chipset-Family

After you have successfully installed the update driver, please verify that the driver update has been installed by running a Direct X Diagnostic test (procedure below):

  1. Launch %windir%\system32\dxdiag.exe
  2. Select Save All Information
  3. Please reply with the resulting *.TXT file attached

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any quetsions.

Thanks,

It started downloading automatically (thre was a progress count-up % in the GUI showing an update was downloading).  I presume it did the installation automatically also... but I was away from the computer at the time, and restarted when I got back... I guess there is a chance that the restart itself fixed my issue, but I don't see any pending updates right now, so I guess the update is done.

Samething happens On my 2011 Macbook Pro quad 16gig with

AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB

I get the gray screen too.  It happens sometimes when have a design open, then I create a new design and both windows go gray.  Seems to happen if it's wanting me to restart the app due to an update.  But I cannot reproduce that test case.  Restarting the app fixed it (see second picture).

I did have section analysis turned on, if that matters.

Can you try turning off visual effects?

If it happens again, check the graphics diagnostic to ensure your actual video card is being used. It's under the ?Help menu.

It happened again, after a lot of tries, when I created a new file -- here are the settings (from the clipboard button).  I'll turn off ground shadow for a while.

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: AMD Radeon HD 6750M
GPU RAM: 1024 MB
GPU Driver API: OpenGL Core Profile

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: Off
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Simple
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Notes]
The effects could slow down the graphics rendering; try to limit them for optimum performance.

[Limit all effects to provide optimum performance]
Off

Nothing out of the ordinary there.

You do mention running two monitors. "then I create a new design and both windows go gray. "

This will add stress to the video card, but shouldn't cause this much trouble. Are you using any other video intensive apps at the same time?

Things to try:

  • Reboot your machine
  • Disconnect the second monitor, or mute the laptop screen.
  • Close any video hungry apps.

I want to eliminate variables here.

Thanks,
