New A360 Fusion Member Needs HELP: Post Processing (Re-Post from other forum)

Hi Everyone,
I am a recent "convert" to A360 Fusion:Ultimate and continue to be amazed at the power and incredible value of thid product. Don't get me wrong, it's very different from my previous design software and has been quite a humbling experience thus far. Embarassingly enough, it seems there is something to that addage about "old dogs and new tricks."
In effort to give anyone willing to help an idea of how much (or how little) I understand regarding the CAM side of the story, here's a quick background on my experience;
-Having entered the CNC proramming/machinist world over 25 yrs ago, Fanuc contols (among other EIA/ISO controls) and a single seat of "EZ-CAM" continued to be the world I knew for just short of a decade. Nothing short of a miracle took place when we converted our shop, swiftly and completely, to EXCLUSIVELY Mazak machine tools. Designing in Solidworks and programming in Mazatrol nearly quadrupled our throughput! Life was great until a falling out with our Mazak dealer led me to make the statement "I will never buy another new Mazak if it must be purchased through you." As corporations protect distribution territories, we were faced with a change...
In an effort to test the waters before going "all in" on a new brand, I purchased a Mori Seiki NV5000a/40, that only had 174 hours on it, from a local company that was an "Okuma" shop. The employees refused to utilize the machine, becoming frustrated with the learning curve from their familiar Okuma format. Sadly, things weren't much different when the Mori came to our shop. After a year of virtually no production (in comparison to the Mazaks) Mr. Sawyer at Ellison Technologies came to our rescue. He helped us get the machine to accept downloaded programs. REJOICE...for we were no longer bound to the "devil" (AKA- Mori Seiki's MAPPS/CAPS control) !!!
Having been decades since my last interaction with an off-machine CAM system, I was stunned at the sheer volume of products, as well as the equally shocking range of pricing. After months of research and despair, Autodesk 360 Fusion Ultimate came to my attention. What a EUREKA moment! As I mention previously, I am (still) amazed at the incredible value it truly is. It's safe to say; I'm "all in." Anyone willing to provide such an incredible product at an unfathomable value has my loyalty.
Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated. I'm uncertain of the proper way to approach this task, or if it is even possible. Here goes...
I've noticed several anomoies when attempting to run code (after significant hand editing at the machine) that I get various alarms as well as very "jerky" motion that runs at far slower than programmed feed rates. Would it be possible to post a list of my parameters/"specialty parameters" provided in my Mori Seiki/Fanuc manuals in an effort to have someone who knows what options I do/do not actually have? Would this be of value in attempting to customize a post processor to take ful advantage of what I have, while not forcing the machine into doing something it wasn't optioned for?
Thank you to all who have taken the time to read my post. I would appreciate any and all suggestions and constructive critisism.

Mykal1970,

You may receive some very good replies here, but I think you should visit the Autodesk CAM forum and post this particular question there; here is the link.

http://camforum.autodesk.com

The CAM Forum covers HSMWorks, InventorHSM and Fusion CAM. In most cases, your questions will get the equivalent answer here or there; but i think questions about post processors might best be answered in the Post Processor section of the CAM forum referenced above. HTH

Fredsi,

Thank you so much for the advise; that hadn't even occured to me. Would it be in poor taste to simply re-post my unaltered  plea for help in that forum; just worried I may come off as some kind of spammer or the like.

It crossed my mind over the weekend that I never even mentioned that I wasn't expecting anything for free; time/effort is money. As I am clueless to what I'm asking for, so goes knowledge of it's monitary value. At any rate, I'm expecting to pay for what I'm asking for.

                                                                                      Kind regards,

                                                                                          Mykal1970.

Welcome to the forum Mykal!

It is not uncommon to copy/paste questions into the other forum, at least, no one has told me to stop doing that.....:P

A couple of questions that I and many would start off asking is this:

What post processor are you currently using to produce code?

Do you have a program that you have produced with other software that works well and you would be willing to share?

Finding out the couple basic things can actually go quite a ways in determining where the issue lies.

My day job is spent in a shop with 9 Mori machines (and 20 or so other makes). We love em. They have all been very solid purchases, reliable to say the least. 4 of them have the MAPPS control, but I can honestly say I have no idea what sort of trouble you are having, as our machines take the same code that our "lesser" and older machines take. Granted, there are some "M" codes that are different as well as "G" codes, particularly those for high speed machining.

Question: on your feedrate issue, is it more noticeable when you are performing a G02/03 move or is it present in linear moves as well?

I setup and run an NTX2000 9-axis, so yeah, good times

Mykal1970,

Well, you might consider condensing it just a bit Smiley Happy

Bottom line, give them a description of the machine maker/model/controller and that you need a post. Most likely, they will send you a recommended post and ask you to post some code. If the code is not to your liking, mark it up showing how you would like it to look, send it back and they will make the changes (assuming what you need is possible).

It has been my experience (Delcam, HSMWorks) that posts for 3axis and some 4/5axis machines, and their attendent edits, are free when obtained directly from the company (resellers usually need to charge for their time). Highly customized posts and those for mill/turn may incur some cost. HTH

Seth,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I was using the "generic Fanuc" post provided. As far as a sample program produced via another system; the only other code I have was produced by MSG-501 MAPPS/CAPS onboard programming system, which I'd be happy to provide. One of my problems, and biggest concerns, is that the machine was supposed to have all kinds of control options from Fanuc specifically for "high speed machining" when progrfammed via an offline CAM package. I have no idea whether or not this is the case as I am unable to determine what the options list depict in "laymans terms."

The link to my photobucket album of the Mori contains pictures of the parameter (options) lists. This was provided in hopes someone well versed in Fanuc could tell me what I "truly" have in the way of control options. The machine even alarms with the use of a G05.1 command; this worries me as I was assured that it had "all the bells and whistles for those who choose to use an offline CAM system utilizing high speed machining and smoothing technologies."

I'd be more than happy to pay someone to review my control options and give me the skinny on what I've actually got. The same goes for anyone capable and willing to write/customize a post for me that will not only be formatted in a way that is required for basic functionality but also taking full advantage of any control options I do have available.

I'll post a short program from the MSG-501 that works properly and samples typical program "beginning, tool changes, and ending" within the next hour; I'm trying to get a few of my guys up to speed on a new project here in the shop. Thanks again for taking the time to reply; it is truly appreciated.

I'm afraid I won't be able to help you much in terms of parameters to verify. That's not something I've had to dive into, as our equipment has always been bought new and setup with Mori guys in house to make sure everything is to our satisfaction.

That being said, I asked a couple of the guys on the floor and they confirmed this: The same programs we use on the older machines (YCM, Twinhorn, Toyoda) work just fine on the machines with MAPPS. Our machines do utilize high speed machining with the following format:

G0G54
G0G90G54A0.X-2.4764Y-3.313S4000M3
N10G43H1Z.3M8T2

...

...

...

G0Z.3M9
G05.1Q0(AICC OFF)
G0G49G53Z0.M19
N1228M1

Not sure what your generic Fanuc post is giving you for a format. Chances are maybe the location of what is put where is the source of your frustration.

Are you located in the USA? We have always had good luck dealing with DMG Mori-Seiki. Contact your local Mori sales office (DMG-Mori owns them all) and try to get a hold of an applications guy and explain the issue. You should just be able to output your ladder and parameter list and e-mail it to them, or they can tell you what to look for..

Edit: Forgot to add one thing. Mori has an option before the G05.1Q1 to utilize a G332Rx. (1-4) option. That sets the "resolution" so to speak. 1 is very course smoothing with focus on speed and machine safety. 4 is a fine setting that focuses on accuracy and speed

Yeah, the guys over at the post forum have always been super helpful getting posts to behave "just-so" even when it's simply to satisfy someones occasional OCD inclinations..(cough, cough)

Any chance your machine had a couple programs left in it from the previous owner?
