I'm completely new to mudbox and am trying to paint a terrain model I made. I started with a rough base mesh in 3DS, divided the UV space into 16 sections as my intent is to render relatively high quality images.
I've sculpted my terrain, and have 6 levels running upwards of 2M faces. I just added a paint layer at 2K resolution which took 20 minutes to add, and then saved the file which took another 20 minutes, plus it created a folder with 30,000 image files? Is this normal? After saving the file I'm still waiting for it to re-open after having closed it. Mudbox has severely bogged down my CPU throttling it to 100% and is using 8GB of my memory.
What is the correct procedure for adding paint layers because this performance is ridiculous.
Figured it out.
I accidentially imported a surface to reference as a water plane that had UVs scaled to mm units.
Thus every time I saved it created thousands of texture files
Holy cow!
