noob issue...file too new or corruted

Hello

I have just joined the site. I look forward to reading and following peoples problems as no doubt i will encounter many myself.

Right now Ive got a problem with the outcome of a days work. Im just doing level 0 shaping on a base mesh made in Maya. I was saving as i went and i even intermittently reopened the file to see it was okay. Ive read since that this can be problematic, the rewriting rather than the opening up.

What I should have done was save a new file each time. So on a different computer today the file will not open. I get an error essage saying the file is either too new(?) or corrupt. I renamed the .bak file but no use.

On the computer the file was created on yesterday however it does still open.

If i try to export this back to Maya (im thinking i can use a different file format to get it back into Mudbox eventually) i see nothing, no mesh and nothing in the outliner. Mudbox seems to be doing its part. Is all truly lost, do i have to go back to the start again or is there hope?

is it possible that you have a service pack installed on the other computer..?

Thanks, it seems to be okay now

I deleted all preferences. The blank file was a scaling issue. The nodes were there in the outliner but the geometry was way outside the field of vision. I saved the meshas .mb, which incidently had vertex normals doing all sorts of things and needed unlocking, and now it happily exports to mudbox. No clearer on why just happy i can now continue.
