Modelling vector displacement plane in Maya before sculpting

Hi All,

I'm trying a different approach to vector displacement brushes and it doesn't seem to work.  What if one wanted to model a detailed displacement plane in Maya first then extract it later in Mudbox.

I basically modelled a low res object from a plane in Maya, brought it into Mudbox, sculpted it a bit more in Mudbox. Then I squashed down the Maya model into a plane for the target model and exported it to Mudbox. After the extraction the vector brush is spiked and all messed up.

Do you have to start with a Mudbox plane in Mudbox and sculpt in Mudbox to successfully create vector stamps and stencils? Some things are just easier to whip up in Maya.

p.s. first time using this feature.

vector maps are based on the vertex count and order...

so if you model the source in maya you are not allowed to use the cut tool or any other tool that will reorder or change the vertex count...

you only allowed to subdivide the exported mudbox plane and move the verticies...
