New AutoCAD Website

Hey all, I'm new here so bear with me! I've started up my own website for free AutoCAD stuff. Tonnes of stuff to download including blocks, details, lisp routines, hatch patterns and text styles. There's also a help forum on there. Since this is a new website there haven't been many people sigining up for the forum but I'm confident that it will grow. The website is www.cadcorner.ca. Have a look and tell me what you think!
Thanks,
Mike

Your "Text Styles" page actually contains "font files". many of which
are stock AutoCAD fonts which are copywritten.

ftr... No one in my company has winzip.

we all have windows xp and use their functionality. (most users don't have
install rights to put something like that on their machines and it doesn't
come standard with new pc's)

To tell you the truth there's not a whole lot of people that I know that
don't have winzip. Winzip you can get as a free "trial download" that
doesn't have a time limit on it. Besides, winzip is a great program to have
on your computer. There's no reason that anyone wouldn't be able to access
the files that I have on my site.

I'm also a registered owner of Winzip ... BUT I have to agree with you that
most users in the US would have an easier time if the files were in a .zip
format instead of .rar .

It's my understanding that outside the US, .rar is encounted more often but
the .zip is still the dominant file format.

My registered version of WinZip doesn't open rar files. See attached
screenshot.

rar files are pretty much the same as zip files...just an archive. You can
open it with winzip or winrar.
I noticed that you said that it "could be" a good site. What else would you
recommend for the site? Trying to make improvements to it based on the
average user's input.

Have the tutorials open as pdf. I always like it when I can print out a
perfect pdf document of a tutorial.

I do have registered WinZip, but why don't people look into 7-Zip? It
does Zip and RAR.

1. Personally, I have never heard of it before.
2. I have used Winzip since ... well forever .. I'm comfortable with Winzip.
3. I have received a total of maybe two .rar files in my career. In both
cases I have asked
them to resend in .zip format which they did.
4. On the other occasions that I downloaded something from the net in .rar
format, I used a
demo/shareware app for .rar and uninstalled it.
5. Bottom line is presently I don't have a need for .rar decompression.

Go to www.7-Zip.org where you can download it. Best of all is that
it's free. You can register and make a donation to help development if
you like.

just checked out your site, maybe you need to be specific about some things, looking at your cad blocks section, looks like the autodesk symbols 2000 to me. be careful about what you post, may cost you in the end

The blocks that I have in there from my collection are from my place of employment right now. They very well might be from the Autodesk symbols 2000 but I can't find anything labelled that way nor if I look in the properties find anything as far as who authored the drawings.

And does your place of employment know that you're sharing their IP?

You've managed to hit on about three different IP issues in your opening
week. This doesn't bode well, good_m. Just be careful.

I do intend on taking as much of the information off my website as I can find that is copywritten. Since RK mentioned about the fonts I've been trying to find information on how to read the files to find if they are free to distribute etc. I will be removing some of the material this weekend since I will have time then.

Intellectual Property.

Who owns the rights to what you're posting at free.

It's a fine line, and many people don't appreciate their work being shared.
Terry was nice about it, but others would not be.

I understand that and I guess since I am now an author of a website (I'll admit that I'm still pretty new to it all) I guess I can't just feel that people will be honest and I'll have to check everything that gets uploaded rather than just posting it blindly. I would like to affer my apologies to anyone that has found anything on the website that should not be there. The offending material will be removed over the weekend. I would also like to thank those that have pointed out the offending materials.

I think it's great everyone is giving there "lessons learned" so Mike can
get it right early. Every new foray has bumps.
To be a trailblazer you have to push the grass down at first then just keep
striding.

Well said Chas.
I am taking all of these as lessons learned. As I said before and I will say again. It's not my intent to plagerize anyone's work and I will never claim to have done the work myself. This is precisely why I posted the website here. I figured with the number of people that are on the discussion boards here people would be able to clue me in to things that I haven't yet thought of. I've taken everyone's critiques and I will be revamping my site to suit what is right and what is wrong. Thank you again to all of you that have checked it out and thank you for the input.
Of all things I want you to know that I'm trying to run a legitimate website and get it off the ground. I am new and there were obvisouly a few things that I was naive to. Thank you for opening my eyes!

Just a note on your overall content to this point.
In reviewing the offerings for your site I can't help but notice that it
seems to be geared to the 2d draftsman and not to design professionals. This
may have been your intent all along. Different websites concentrate on
different facets of the business.

So far it is geared towards the 2d draftsman. I, personally, haven't had the chance to do much in the area of 3D drafting because none of the firms that I've worked for have dealt much in the 3d world. In combination with this I am also looking forward to seeing the upgrades that AutoCAD has made in their 3D world when it comes to acad 2007. Our company has intentions of getting 2007 and once I see it I may begin to learn more 3D and gear it towards 2D and 3D drafting. Overall, my main gear was architectural as well as AutoCAD in general.
If there was anyone that wanted to contribute 3D info to the site they are more than welcome to and have their information credited to them. I'm actually hoping that there will be a couple 3D gurus that would want to join my forum and become a moderator for a 3d section of the forum. If there's anyone out there that's interested please feel free to sign up and drop me a line!
