Program failing when trying to use wall calculator

Hi, so I'm working on a project for school, measuring drag force on different simple objects. Everythig works fine, until I try doing it with a ball. The simulation runs the same as with every other object, but when I try to use wall calculator to calculate the forces on the body and to choose the ball, I get an error message.

I have tried pressing retry and cancel and the program stoped working in both cases.

Any ideas how to solve this would be highly appreciated.

Hi @anamarija.ursic,

Thanks for reaching out on the forums! I've experience this issue in the past before too. The problem is that the ball does not have a single edge. There must be one edge in order for the wall calculator to work. Go back into CAD and use a plane to split the ball into two halves. The physical dimensions will be the exact same; there will just be a seam edge.

After this you should be good to go! Please let me know how it works.

Thanks,

I've had this problem too (with a ball), and of course spent lots of time before I found this on the forum.

So first, thanks for the post and answer!

Second.  This problem has been around for at least a year (I found it in both CFD 2016 and 2017).  Since we all know what the problem is, and since hundreds or thousands of people trying to test the code will run a ball or sphere in the next decade or so, why hasn't a programmer taken the 10 minutes to fix this...provide the same feedback to the user as in this answer?

Thanks,

Bret

Hello,

Your model is not split.

The cylinder is is still 1 surface.  Please see attached image.

HI, I am getting the same error. However, im certain my model has an edge. when exported from cad it is in five different parts. When added to CFD under the "boundary conditions" it says "5 surfaces" however under the "results panel" it says " 1 volume" I have attached a screenshot for your viewing. How can I adjust this? Is this a mesh issue? or a deeper problem. Trying to use wall calculator for drag. Capture.PNG

Additionally, I ran model diagnostics on the model and everything comes back ok. No potential problems ether. Capture1.PNG

But when I try to transfer to setup, I get this error: Capture2.PNG

So a few questions... 1) am I getting wall calculator error because I have been using surface warp model?

2) can you use calculator on surface warped models?

3) why am I getting this error trying to transfer to setup? I get the same error when I push "create"

4) Thanks in advanced for your assistance.
