xref repathing

I am looking for a repathing utility for AutoCAD.

About 5 years ago, I used to use a program called Xrepath:
http://www.intelcad.com/pages/xrepath/index.htm

It was a fantastic tool that ran outside of ACAD and had an unlimited ability to rename and relocate paths (didn’t need a file at the target to repath). Unfortunately this program is no longer in development and I am having a really hard time finding a substitute.

I need to:
1) Search a directory for all dwgs
2) Rename paths for images and xrefs
3) Run the repathing outside of AutoCAD
4) Able to process within zip files
5) Will repath ALL paths regardless of whether target exists or not
6) Capable of skipping corrupt files

The Reference Manager that comes with AutoCAD will not work for me primarily due to the fact it will not repath missing files and does not have a search function. Also, I have a very large number of files to process.

I have looked at Linkfixer, but it does not have a runnable demo, and they want almost $3000 for the program. I’m not about to spend that kind of money on an unknow.

Also tried Ultra AutoCAD Tool. Simple and I liked it, but it does not process within zip files and crashes with corrupt files.

Contacted Tool Pac at dotsoft, but I guess they don’t want my business as they have not replied…

Ok that’s it. Please let me know if any of you have any good solutions.

Start>> Program files>> Autodesk>> [your application]>> Reference Manager

You'll never loose sleep again

Its not really a viable solution for me.

Linkfixer gave me a runnable demo. And their pricing is incremental based
on the number of files you expect to batch per run. $3K is the high end, we
were looking at the $500 version. We haven't bought, but it looked like a
good solution for doing what we need at some point. Not sure if it does all
you need, tho.

You should give em a call or email to clear that up a bit.

Yeah, I called them and had run it up the flagpole about getting a runnable demo out of them.

They wrote me back:
-----------------------------
I checked but unfortunately we don't have another trial version that will perform the rename process for you.
You can read what the limitations for the 30-day trial are right here:
http://www.linkfixerplus.com/suppor t/faq.htm#9
----------------------------

So I'm not sure how you got ahold of a runnable version. I know the demo is able to run certain tasks, but not the renaming of xrefs...

Anyway, I am working with a company to develop a program that meets my needs and I will post that info if it works out.

Gonna be a long christmas 'break' as I slog thru all of my quarter-of-a-million cad files...

You might give the guys at CADfx a call (www.cadfx.com). They sort of
specialize in batch processing drawings and while they don't have a product
ready for download - they do a lot of custom work and probably have
something like what you want sitting on a shelf...

I am not 100% sure, but Tim Willey wrote something for this using C# if I
recall seeing it in the .NET forum.

Are the missing files those that appear as not found? - anyway I am not
familiar with the usage of Ref-Manager (AutoCAD 2007) nor with the other
ones mentioned, but just did a quick test and was able to repath those not
found xref's, to even a non-existed file....

Maybe. But maybe you didn't look at the refrence manager utility?

I don't know about the beginning bit, because I haven't needed it, but,
I do know that it tends to cough and choke a little when you do more
than 200 files at a time, iirc (I used to it repath after IT dumped my
directory onto a new server).
