Web Site Help

Our web site has free downloads of our products in CAD & PDF form. Currently, the preview for the products in the CAD version are viewable in AutoCAD DWF Viewer.
I want to add drawings which have all the annotation, dims etc in paper space and just the line work in model space. These however only preview with the linework. How do I make the preview show the paperspace layout with the completed drawing?
I thought about DWF instead of DWG but engineers need to be able to insert our drawings into theirs and revise them as needed otherwise we'd just offer PDF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, anyone heard from teiarch. I haven't seen him post since last year. I hope all is well with him.

I thought the preview was the last view shown when you save the dwg?

Yes, that's all it is, an embedded image created when you last save.

How do I get that to be the layout tab which shows the complete drawing?
I don' think it is the last saved image like the thumbnail in Explorer either. I have to save down to 2000 and it is read through the DWF Viewer. Believe me, it is not that easy or I wouldn't be here asking for help!

It works fine saving down to R2004 here, see attached screenshot of the dwg
preview in Windows Explorer.

Do you have RASTERPREVIEW variable set to 1?

Dean,

I don't think you understand what I'm talking about. I'm not trying to get a preview for windows explorer. I know that is automatic if everything is set up properly.

Our web site has a download area where there is a directory tree you can navigate. As you navigate through the tree, the AutoCAD DWF Viewer allows you to see the DWG drawings to the right of the tree.

I have some drawings which have all the dims and annotations in paper space, which I would like to add to the directory for use. Problem is they preview through the AutoCAD Viewer without all the necessary dims and annotation because they are only showing what is in model space. I was wondering if there is a way to make it preview through paper space? Preview through the AutoCAD Viewer.

I wondered if anyone out ther uses the free Viewer for this type of application on their web site and if they use paper space for their drawings? If so how are they placing them on their web site to preview properly?

If no reponses by Monday then I'll post the address for the page on our web site so an example can be seen. I figured someone had used this technology before.

Previews in AutoCAD only display what was on screen when the file was last
saved: so are you saying this function is broken in your AutoCAD seat? Or
are the files not actually saved the way you wish for them to display, in
Layout with the correct layers on.

And previews are very small raster images buried in a DWG file, they are not
a representative of the content of the file and they really don't get any
bigger in size.

What if your preview image was a DWF but linked to the DWG?

Kate,
That is sounding like a viable solution but I don't know how to isolate the DWF so the preview is that and that alone, not the other line work too. Otherwise, the preview doesn't show enough detail to see what the drawing is. I will experiment a bit and see if this approach works.
Dean,
Our web site does not, NOT use the windows embedded preview. When you click on the file in the directory tree you are actually getting a preview of the drawing as it appears, sorta like how a print preview gets created. It is not the last saved "picture". This preview or "print preview" is created in the AutoDESK DWF Viewer, not through the DWG file or windows. Thanks for your thought though.
