Vista and the problems it presents

The person who posted this, can't run ANY of his programs. He now has to
upgrade ALL of his programs if he wants to continue to run Vista. Are we
ALL headed in this direction? Is everybody out here going to have to
upgrade programs that work perfectly in Windows XP? Are there other
options?

I understand that, but what happens when MS refuses to sell any more
licenses? If you add 20 more people, have only 3 more licenses available
on the license pack you bought 6 years back, but the current version of
Windows doesn't work with the proprietary software you had custom
written 5 years ago? Easy to say get it updated, but not so easy to do.
Especially if the programmer is no longer around to do the work.

As dean has written. This is so very true. This conversation will come up every time regarding OS.

I dont see the huge fuss at this moment. Am i missing somethign bigger.

If you have XP dont upgrade to Vista. Even if you have an Autodesk subscription, you do not have to upgrade your software immidiatly.

If you are gettign new PC's i am sure the it has been set up in a way where by people have OSL's thorugh MS and thus can take of Vista.

Maybe i am missing something, but i am not having a vista crisis and nor are any of the practices i work along side with.

I found a video that shows a nice install where vista was compatible with
the current configuration. Though the system it was installed on will
probably not work for many users here it still worked as manufacture
intended.

I suspect a large number of companies are either out there buying up
retail copies of XP just in case, or will be installing illegal copies
in the near future. Not from being unwilling to cheat, but from
necessity due to the need to stay operational after a computer dies and
has to be replaced. If my proprietary software that I use 6 hours a day
(compared to the 2 hours I use ACAD) doesn't work right on Vista, I
simply have to reformat and run XP.

Been there, done that with XP not running earlier versions of our
software, and being forced to run ME (98 didn't have all the drivers we
needed believe it or not.)

The illegal copies don't need authorization since they use corporate
numbers. They run into trouble with Windows Genuine, but even that is
defeatable to get all the updates. It just puts a star icon in the
system tray warning you about the fact that since you're running an
illegal copy, your system may be at risk.

I found out about it since my wife's legal copy of Windows didn't come
with install disks, but just with a reset set of disks that would wipe
out all her data when reinstalling. When her system crashed I had to
chose keeping her happy or keeping Microsoft happy. Guess who won.

A wise choice I'd say. ;0)

You don't live with Gates & Co. after all. 😮
