UPS suggestions <not the brown truck kind>

I need to get a couple of new uniterupted power supplies for our office. On
one, we'd be running two pc's and monitors and a printer. On the other we'd
be running two pc's and a plotter . I'm thinking around 1500
watts each would be good. Run time isn't that big of a factor just as long
as it's more than 5 minutes or so. WE need it to be reliable for power
problems as well. Seems like every time the power goes off from storms or
poles down we get a problem in a pc. So far this year we have either
replaced or repaired every pc we have. And always when we have problems
it's been after a power outtage. I've sortof looked at some but got lost in
all the specs. What suggestions are there out there?

TIA

Most UPS people will tell you not to run your printer off of a UPS, if it is
a laser printer. I can give you a name of a company that deals with
refurbished UPS' and new ones. They are good in my opinion.

Thought number 1 to this:

Is the world going to end sometime after that and it doesn't matter?

Thought number 2 to this:

Okay. But if you don't answer within 3 days after that, then I'll come
looking for ya'. That's your curfew, 3 days.

Thought number 3 to this:

Is there something that you know, but have to wait until the "situation" has
been past the deadline?

You really don't wnat to do that.
Each computer should have its own back up.
I have used the APC ES 350 or ones like it for a long time
and they work well. Back ups like this also have surge protection and are meant to run one workstation.
find them at www.apc.com around $40 us

We use the APC BE650R

http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BE650R

390 Watts / 650 VA, $80 at Circuit City. Every machine in our office has an
UPS.

I've given up on APC here (3 of them). After a while they start acting
flaky and shut down the system on the hint of a brownout.

Thats odd, we have been using them since we moved into the current building,
10 years ago. They have been replaced over the years with newer, larger
ones, but always APC. This building has daily power fluctuations, so they
are needed. We do use the PowerChute software, and not the windows UPS
software.

Terry do you ever chang the batteries in them...they dont last forever, in
my last engineering co. they had the APC's that would let you know when the
battery was no longer any good. Where i work now, they dont have the same
model so when a couple of computers started to mysteriously reboot on their
own, I changed the batteries in them and the problem went away.

and no you dont hook up a laser printer to a UPS, even knowing that I
mistakenly did it once and fried the entire UPS when I turned the printer
on...had a temporary blonde moment on that one..

I currently use an APC Back-UPS NS running two machines (one is our server and one is my workstation) in the backup plugins and two printers just going through the surge protection. This UPS is rated for 630W, but I rarely go above 230W of actual drawn power (the two machines are always on and used quite frequently).

This UPS has been reliable and a good investment of $100.
