Subscription

Our company has 17 seats of various 2005 AutoCAD products, ADT, ACAD and LT. When we upgrade I am thinking about going the subscription route. Is this practical for a company our size? Is there a substantial savings? Is it difficult to keep up with the installs and updates? Thanks.

We have 8 seats networked for 12 users. We've been subscription since it was
called VIP. Things to consider.

You will have a set line in the budget for subscription. It will increase
from year to year. But not huge jumps.
There will not be one year where you have to come up with upgrade money
after 2 or 3 where you didn't.

Autodesk makes you pay for each upgrade anyway. One year upgrade is 1X. Two
years will be 2X. Then 3X and soon you will have to upgrade or loose the
opportunity. So even if you don't install every year. You might has well
have the option. You're paying for it anyway.

Subscription cost are very close to regular upgrade costs. Sometimes a
little cheaper. Get some #'s from your reseller.

You'll also get online support and training. Are these the best in the
world. Maybe not. But it's included in the price. And I LIKE being able to
bother Autodesk directly with my problems. I know the base level support is
probably outsourced. But my problems aren't base level. I'm always kicked
along the line.

And now I literally can't get off subscription. We use Civil3D which is a
"Subscription Only" Product. You have to get 1 year subscription when you
buy. If you let the contract lapse you can never upgrade. You'll probably
see more of this in the future.

So I think you see that I do recommend subscription.
