Standards

I am working on our standards manual. We have a couple users in other
plants who have Inventor and Solidworks. I want to include something in the
manual about the layering standards for those software packages but know
absolutely nothing about them. Do either of those packages use layers? If
I use AIA layers will that pretty much cover them? They use them primarily
for mechanical design.

Maybe include the users when writing the manual. It sounds as if your being
tasked with something you know nothing about. In that case...use your
resources. The guys that use the software are your best resource.

That is why I am asking this here.

dee,

I think Dave was suggesting that you talk with the guys in your plant that
are using those programs. The people working for you in the those plants
are going to be your best guide as to what standards are required. At the
same time, you may also be able to get a feel for any room in improvement
and you'll become a little wiser for taking the time to work with them and
get a better understanding for the programs they use.

I know nothing about SW but Inventor does not use layers. However, if you
export the drawings to AutoCAD, it can create them to whatever names you wish,
and this can be based upon a template.
